'Good Kill' Poster: Andrew Niccol And Ethan Hawke Re-Team For Drone Warfare

Writer/director Andrew Niccol, and actor Ethan Hawke have done two films together, Gattaca and Lord of War, and they're really Niccol's two best films. Now the pair have done a new film, Good Kill, which is described as "a unique look at the current state of war through the eyes of a drone-pilot." The film premiered at Venice to good reviews, and makes its North American bow at TIFF tonight. Before that happens, however, we've got a dramatic and simple new poster for the film.

goodkill-teaserposter-fullTHR called the film "riveting," noting "The drama's conflicted worlds are smartly mirrored in cinematographer Amir Mokri's crisp widescreen images." Variety called it a "quietly pulsating contempo war drama" that is "At once forward-thinking and exhilaratingly of the moment." while The Playlist said Hawke gives "one of his best recent performances" in "a somber, nuanced and compelling look at the War on Terror as it is waged by U.S. drone pilots" that nonetheless falters right at the end.

Here's the official line on the film. There's no US release date yet, but Voltage pictures has distribution, and expect a release plan to be set after the festival season.

Good Kill tells the story of a Las Vegas fighter-pilot turned drone-pilot (Ethan Hawke), who fights the Taliban via remote control for half of his day, then goes home to his wife (January Jones) and kids in the suburbs for the other half. But the pilot is starting to question the mission. Is he creating more terrorists than he's killing? Is he fighting a war without end? One soldier's tale with epic implications.

GOOD KILL is a visually stunning exploration of how a man's psychological, emotional and moral boundaries are challenged by the realities of 21st century warfare. The film initiates an important dialogue about the current techniques used in modern war, and in the same vein as THE HURT LOCKER and FULL METAL JACKET, illustrates how war is constantly being redefined according to the technologies and methods in play.
