'Focus' Trailer: Will Smith Has Never Seen A Criminal Like Margot Robbie

In Focus, Will Smith is an experienced con man who leads a well-organized ring of criminals. Then he meets an up and coming grifter played by Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street) and the con games get complicated for both of them. Written and directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa (Bad Santa writers and Crazy Stupid Love writer/directors) Focus seems to aspire to blend the zip of a modern film like Wolf of Wall Street with some of the weight of a classical Hollywood picture. Check out the Focus trailer below.

This one came together after a couple of other casting pairs flirted with the film before dropping out. But Smith looks good in the role, and Robbie looks like she's really building on the work she did in Wolf of Wall Street — even having a bit of fun with the image of that role in one of the scenes used early in this trailer. Whether or not this hangs together is something we'll have to wait to see. Ficarra and Requa have done good work as screenwriters in the past, so we're keeping our hopes up.

Focus opens on February 27, 2015. Trailer via Apple.

Will Smith stars as Nicky, a seasoned master of misdirection who becomes romantically involved with novice con artist Jess (Margot Robbie). As he's teaching her the tricks of the trade, she gets too close for comfort and he abruptly breaks it off. Three years later, the former flame—now an accomplished femme fatale—shows up in Buenos Aires in the middle of the high-stakes racecar circuit. In the midst of Nicky's latest, very dangerous scheme, she throws his plans for a loop... and the consummate con man off his game.
