There has been a lot of comic book movie related bits that we missed over the last 24 hours, so I thought I’d do a round-up. After the jump you will find out who Edgar Wright says Ant-Man won’t fit in The Avengers, watch a leaked copy of Josh Hutcherson‘s Spider-Man audition/stunt tape, hear what Jon Favreau thinks about Hulk being recast, and a new Fox News report which claims that Eva Longoria will join The Avengers as The Wasp? Hit the jump.
LatinoReview got their hands on an audition/stunt tape that Josh Hutcherson recorded for Sony and director Marc Webb, as he was one of the contenders to play Peter Parker in the new 3D Spider-Man reboot. Watch the video embedded below:
At Comic-Con, Edgar Wright explained to Cinema Blend why his Ant Man couldn’t fit into The Avengers:
“I talked to Kevin Feige about that a while back where we just discussed about whether he would be in The Avengers. The thing is, the script that I’ve written, you know, whether it’s next or not I don’t know, the chronology of it or the way it works wouldn’t really fit in with what they do. And my film is very much an introduction to that character, and so it wasn’t something where it felt right to introduce him in that film. Maybe if I do the solo Ant-Man film and maybe there’s a later Avengers then they could draft him in later. But it didn’t work with the kind of the angle that we were going to do with the origin that I’d written.”
In September 2008, a hollywood gossip blog published a photo of Eva Longoria leaving the offices of Marvel Studios with a business card and a hand full of reading material, an Avengers comic book on the top of the stack. With Longoria’s television show Desperate Housewives coming to an end, many people were speculating that Longoria might be in the running to play Janet Van Dyne aka Wasp, a founding member of the super team and eventual wife of Ant-Man. We had not heard anything about the rumor since… until now.
Fox News blog Fox 411 is reporting that a close source tells them that “Eva Longoria-Parker is “thisclose” to starring in the second Avengers film as The Wasp. The report claims:
“Marvel is in negotiations with Eva and she is just right for the role,” said the source. “First, she read for the part, then she went into the studio for camera tests. The team liked her for The Wasp so much that she did green screen work in the late spring. She’s perfect in size and attitude. Eva is cute, sexy and full of energy for the part. The character is a bit like Gabby, her character on ‘Desperate Housewives’.”
Is it true? Who knows. Probably not…
Meanwhile, at Comic-Con, IGN had a chance to ask Jon Favreau about his thoughts on Edward Norton being replaced as the Hulk:
Cool Posts From Around the Web:
“It’s tricky,” the Iron Man director said. “I know Edward, and I dig the guy’s talent tremendously. He’s always been a very great guy… I’m sure that however this comes out, it’s going to be something that’s amenable to both the filmmaker and the studio. I know that we faced the challenge of recasting with Don Cheadle and Terrence Howard, and although I think breaking continuity is always a challenge and should be avoided whenever possible, it is the reality of the movie business that sometimes things don’t work out.”
