If Bobcat Goldthwait made more movies, he might be a real cinematic treasure. Simply on the strength of Shakes the Clown and World’s Greatest Dad — especially the latter — he can claim one of the darker corners of American comedy as his own. World’s Greatest Dad is that very rare thing: a seriously funny comedy with great characters that is also one of the darkest, ugliest portraits of human nature I’ve ever seen. Naturally some of us who love that film want more.

And now Bobcat Goldthwait is preparing to oblige. He has been working on a few different ideas (a film version of a Kinks album, and a western) but it seems like he and Darko Pictures have landed on one in particular. During a recent appearance on Adam Carolla’s podcast the writer/actor/director gave up the premise for the movie.

I’ll let Bryan Bishop, a crewmember on the show, do the setup, as he explains a conversation about the movie: “He proceeded to describe some of the most horrific, horrifying things ever, and ended it with, ‘and it’s called God Bless America!’” Want to know what that horrific stuff is? A bit is after the break.

In an appearance on the Adam Carolla Show last week, Bobcat Goldthwait said,

There’s a middle aged guy and he’s at home watching a show like My Super Sweet 16, you know that show?…there’s always a horrible kid who gets everything she wants…”I wanted an Escalade! You ruined everything!” So he’s sitting at home watching a show like that, and he drives 400 miles and kills that girl — spoiler alert! — and then her friend, well not a friend, a classmate, is going “did you kill Chloe?” and he doesn’t say anything, and she goes “awesome.” So then they get in this stolen Camero and drive around and kill people. We’re hoping for a Christmas release.

(The comments start at about one hour into the podcast.)

I’d say I don’t even know how that movie might get made, but World’s Greatest Dad got made, so anything can happen. And knowing how his mind works, I don’t expect that this is going to be some kooky romp in which the middle-aged guy gets to live out his violent fantasy with no repercussions. While the girl from the reality show will probably be made to look horrible, by the end of the film I’d bet that she’s the most respectable-looking character on screen.
