Earlier this month, Peter reported from WonderCon that he was “very impressed” by the clips he’d seen of Falling Skies, praising the show for its “very high budget and cinematic” look. Now that TNT’s released the first five minutes of the Steven Spielberg-produced alien invasion series, we can judge for ourselves — and I’m with Peter. It’s too early to tell if Falling Skies will actually be a quality show, but this first clip, at least, looks good. Watch it after the jump.

Falling Skies really does feel more like a movie than a television series in these first few minutes. The aliens are surprisingly convincing and not at all goofy-looking, and the action seems decent. I’m still not totally convinced that Falling Skies will have anything special to set it apart from The Walking Dead or other alien stories, but it looks at least like a solid entry into the post-apocalyptic and alien-invasion subgenres.

Here’s the official synopsis:

FALLING SKIES opens in the chaotic aftermath of an alien attack that has left most of the world completely incapacitated. The few remaining survivors have banded together outside major cities to begin the difficult task of fighting back. Each day is a test of survival as citizen soldiers engage in an insurgency campaign against the occupying alien force, whose nature and purpose remains a mystery. FALLING SKIES is a tale of endurance, commitment and courage in which everyday people are called upon to become heroes. The survivors may be outmatched, outnumbered and outgunned, but nothing can beat the human spirit. The series combines stunning visual effects and personal human stories about triumph and survival in the most devastating circumstances.

Falling Skies stars Wyle as Tom Mason, a Boston history professor whose family has been torn apart. Bloodgood also stars as Anne Glass, a pediatrician who works with the survivors. Will Patton (Armageddon, TNT’s Into the West) plays a fierce leader of the resistance, Weaver. And Roy plays Mason’s eldest son and fellow- fighter, Hal. FALLING SKIES comes to TNT from DreamWorks Television and executive producer Steven Spielberg.

Falling Skies will debut Sunday, June 19 at 9/8c on TNT.

Discuss: Now that you’ve seen an actual scene from the series, are you more or less excited for the show?
