Is That Ant-Man Post Credits Scene A Direct Response For More Female Characters?

Was one of the Ant-Man credits scenes a direct response to cries from fans for more female superheroes? A few weeks back I talked with Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige and was able to ask him that question. Find out what he said, after the jump.

Warning, spoilers follow for Ant-Man.

In Ant-Man, Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) is recruited by Hank Pym to help him pull of a heist. One of the subplots of the film is that Hank wants to protect his daughter Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) from possible danger, which is why he pushed her away and didn't want her to get too involved. One of the credits scenes for Ant-Man involves Hank revealing a secret chamber with a never-before-seen Wasp suit. Hank and Hope's mother Janet were working on the suit before she died, Pym finally realized they were making it for Hope. She smiles, looks at The Wasp suit and responds, "It's about damn time."

Was that Wasp credits scenes line a direct response to Marvel fans hoping to see more female superheroes on the big screen?

No and yes.

Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige says the moment was not an intentional at first but...

"It was not an intentional thing, it was scripted as something we hoped that Hope would say. When she delivered it and we were cutting it together in dailies I went 'Oh my god, she's not just speaking for Hope, she's speaking for this entire community thats asking for these things.' And I just thought it was awesome. We shot versions where she didn't have a line. So in that regards, sure, I think it took on a bigger meaning as we approached the release date."

As for when we will finally see Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) put on The Wasp suit, read my previous piece.
