The human race survived 2012, but we will survive The World’s End? The latest film from Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost has an apocalyptic promise in the title and in a the latest set of images, there’s a whole lot of drinking going down. Pubs played a big role in both Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, the first two films from the trio. They’ll play an even bigger role here as Pegg and Frost are joined by Martin Freeman, Paddy Considine and Eddie Marsan. All play characters involved in a bar hopping adventure aimed towards the titular pub, and might end up having to saving the world.

Check out two brand new images and some quotes below.

UPDATE – A third image has now been revealed too.

The latest issue of Empire premiered the latest two images from The World’s End, which is out October in the US and August in the UK (reason enough to take a trip this summer.) For more on the first image, read below.

That third shot, of Pegg looking all heroic, teases at what the film might be. We’ve heard rumors of it being some kind of apocalyptic, alien invasion story, but there’s no set confirmation. Curiously, the Empire article says the following about the second image:

The film’s jaundiced hero, instigator of a pub-based reunion for his old muckers, raises a pint with said pals before the neutrin-ales start mutating.

Mutating ales? What could that mean? (When crafting ales, brewers use yeast starters to begin fermentation, and that yeast can be said to mutate, and provide unexpected or unwanted qualities in the resulting brew. Can that process be an influence here?)

Speaking to Empire, Pegg said the following about the images:

It’s a much bigger proposition than the other two films….When you’ve seen the film, you’ll be able to relate each pub name to what happens inside.

For an idea of what he’s talking about, don’t forget the Comic-Con teaser poster.

UPDATE: The first image, of Pegg with the Map, comes from IGN. They also have an exclusive interview with Edgar Wright who discussed the film and explains the photo in question:

That’s his map of the pubs in Newton Haven, which he had as a teenager. You can see on the map that nine pubs are crossed out because when they were teenagers they only got through nine of the 12 pubs. And he’s kept that map.

The World’s End, co-written and directed by Edgar Wright, and starring co-writer Simon Pegg along with Nick Frost, Martin Freeman, Paddy Considine, Eddie Marsan and Rosamund Pike.
