STX Entertainment has unveiled the latest trailer for The Bye Bye Man, a supernatural horror-thriller that has Doug Jones (Hellboy) playing a sinister force who’s been responsible for unthinkable evil. The problem is that avoiding his grasp is easier said than done. As the attractive young heroes/victims keep advising each other, “Don’t say it, don’t think it.” But of course, trying really hard to avoid thinking about something is a surefire way of making sure you keep thinking about it. Watch The Bye Bye Man trailer after the jump.
The Bye Bye Man Trailer
Honestly, I’d forgotten until just now that this movie never actually came out. But hey, that’s what trailers are for. Originally, it was slated to open in June 2016, but at some point STX quietly kicked it down the road to January 13, 2017. The first year of the month has a reputation as a dumping ground for terrible movies, but horror’s often done really well that time of year. The first Cloverfield was a January movie, as was Mama. Maybe The Bye Bye Man will follow in that same mold.
… Or, you know, maybe not. The concept behind The Bye Bye Man isn’t a bad one — and the film’s got a great asset in Jones, who’s made a career out of otherworldly movement — but the trailers have been kind of middling. There’s not much here to distinguish The Bye Bye Man from any of the dozens of other mediocre horror flicks that come out every year. Hopefully they’ve got a few more interesting tricks up their sleeve.
The Bye Bye Man is directed by Stacy Title and stars Douglas Smith, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Faye Dunaway.
