Columbia Pictures is serious about their new Spider-man franchise. The Amazing Spider-Man won’t hit theaters until July 2012, and a sequel is already planned. In March, Sony hired screenwriter James Vanderbilt to pen the follow-up. It looks like they are happy with the drafts he handed in, because today they are setting a May 2nd 2014 release date for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (I’m sure this title will change to something more clever later on). A Sony exec told Deadline, “I think it speaks volumes about our confidence in what we are seeing on the new film and our desire to move quickly on the next installment.” Sony also wants to beat Marvel Studios to the punch, as the Disney-owned comic book company/studio has yet to announce their 2014 slate of projects or claim dates.Cool Posts From Around the Web:
