Ben Affleck Batman

Visiting the set of Zack Sndyer‘s Justice League, we were told that we would not be interviewing any of the film’s cast. And especially not Ben Affleck, whom I’ve heard typically doesn’t do press while he’s filming a movie. We were watching them film a scene that features Commissioner Gordon meeting with a few members of the Justice League (read about that scene here). As production wrapped for the day, the costume department removed his bat cowl, leaving him with a damp head and eyes ringed with black eyeshadow. On his way to his dressing room, Affleck stopped to say hello to us.

Christian [Bale] never let reporters see him with the raccoon eyes, proving that Christian is a much smarter man than I am.

willem dafoe justice league role

Willem Dafoe has one of the most interesting faces in the history of cinema. Capable of showcasing extraordinary kindness and demonic malice, his distinct look has allowed him to play everyone from Jesus Christ to the Green Goblin. The man is a treasure and his presence in any movie is gift.

So him being cast in Zack Snyder’s Justice League (alongside fellow national treasure and fellow Spider-Man alum J.K. Simmons) is only a good thing. No matter how this film turns out, it will still have had the good taste to have cast Dafoe and that’s something. But we have gathered here today because a few details about the role Dafoe is playing in Justice League have come to light. So, who or what is he playing?

justice league villain

Shortly after the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, fans were surprised to see that Warner Bros. quickly released a deleted scene from the movie. The scene in question revealed just how Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) came to be apprehended and imprisoned for the later scene when he’s confronted by Batman. However, it also raised more questions because it featured a previously unseen character with some levitating Mother Boxes briefly appearing before disintegrating and flying away from the scene. But if a new rumor about who the Justice League villain will be is true, we now know who this mysterious character is. Read More »

Batman v Superman

As the newest big-screen iteration of Batman, Ben Affleck already plays a key role in Warner Bros.’ DC Extended Universe. Affleck’s Dark Knight made his debut in this spring’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and will be back onscreen for this summer’s Suicide Squad, and then he’ll get his own solo movie in the not-too-distant future with Affleck himself behind the camera.

And as if all that weren’t enough, Affleck is now digging even deeper into the future of the franchise. The two-time Oscar winner has signed on to executive produce the upcoming Justice League movie, which he’s already starring in for director Zack SnyderRead More »

James Wan Leaving Aquaman

UPDATE: James Wan has responded on Twitter to rumors of trouble on Aquaman. See his comments below.

Just yesterday, The Flash lost director Seth Grahame-Smith, creating some uncertainty and instability for the future of the DC Comics film universe. The report cited creative differences between the filmmaker and the studio as the reason for Grahame-Smith’s departure, but it sounds like that might not be the only trouble Warner Bros. Pictures is having behind the scenes.

A new rumor from Birth.Death.Movies says James Wan is “feeling tremendous amounts of trepidation” about directing Aquaman, which he’s been attached to since last summer. Apparently Wan is in the midst of figuring out if he really wants to stay on board the comic book blockbuster featuring Jason Momoa in the lead role. Find out more about the potential of James Wan leaving Aquaman and more DC Comics movie woes after the jump. Read More »

Alfred in Justice League

Even though production on Justice League is underway across the pond in London, we still haven’t confirmed the full cast for the first big screen assembly of DC Comics most iconic superheroes. It’s a forgone conclusion that Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Ray Fisher and Jason Momoa will all be back as Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Cyborg and Aquaman. It’s also probably likely that Henry Cavill will be back as Superman, though considering the events of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, maybe he’ll sit the first part of Justice League out.

Now one more member of the supporting cast has been revealed with Jeremy Irons coming back as Alfred, presumably offering guidance and assistance to The Dark Knight as he attempts to round up the other superheroes for Justice League. Read More »

robin weapon

Zack Snyder‘s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice offered a smorgasbord of reasons to get riled up and annoyed and angry, from the inane and nonsensical plot to the cinematic Doomsday who looked like a third rate cave troll to a Superman who was an all-powerful stick-in-the-mud. But now, nearly a month after its release, one aspect irritates me like no other: the portrayal of Batman as a remorseless killer who dispatches his enemies with machine guns and explosives.

While some fans have speculated that this iteration of Batman has been driven to murder after years of psychologically agonizing crimefighting, a piece of concept art nips this theory in the bud while also dragging (the deceased) Robin through the mud. It turns out that Robin’s weapon on display in the Batcave isn’t what you think it is.

Batman v Superman R-Rated Cut

Even before Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hit theaters, we knew that there was an R-rated version of the comic book flick coming to home video. Dubbed the Ultimate Edition, the new cut was going to add 30 minutes of footage back into the movie and spice it up with a little more violence that would push it to being an R-rated feature. The only way fans were going to see this was when it hit home video, but now Warner Bros. is reportedly considering releasing the Batman v Superman R-rated cut in theaters. Find out more below.
