Many TV spots do little more than rearrange footage from a film’s primary trailers into 30-second bites. And that’s fine. But the Man of Steel TV spots have been giving up perhaps more new footage than usual, and this third spot has quite a grand scope packed into half a minute.
The capper is a shot of one very angry Superman (Henry Cavill) as he flies into action, but there are also some quick new shots of Michael Shannon as General Zod, and some action and effects bits that we haven’t seen before. All in all, it’s probably the most epic TV commercial that will be airing this month, so have a look below if you haven’t already seen it. Read More »

The latest trailer for Zack Snyder‘s Man of Steel did a lot to convince people that the director of 300 and Watchmen was in fact the right choice for the film. The continuation of a certain tone from Christopher Nolan’s Batman movies doesn’t help, but Snyder’s casting choices — Kevin Costner, Russell Crowe, Michael Shannon, and Henry Cavill as Superman — are persuasive arguments that his sense of direction for Superman is steady. And then there’s the range of action seen in the trailer, which brings the character to life in a way that few expected.
Now there are a couple new bits of marketing that don’t quite push our perception of the film in the way that trailer did. As the header image above suggests, a new poster focuses very much on Superman and his power in flight. The TV spot, meanwhile, looks to his birth family, and gives the voiceover reigns to Russell Crowe as Jor-El to explain his son’s potential destiny on Earth. Read More »

Credits sequences in Superman movies have almost always been amazing. Usually, John Williams’ iconic score plays a large part in that but with Man of Steel, Zack Snyder doesn’t have his music to fall back on. There’s a lot to live up to, in many ways.
For the credits sequence, though, maybe Snyder will take a hint from the design company Will & Tale. They’ve created a gorgeous, poignant credits sequence to the film, beautifully blending the tropes of modern society with the origins of the character. It’s not official or anything, just for fun, but it’s well worth your time. Read More »
