Man of Steel - Superman - Henry Cavill

The first reviews for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice are in, and they’re… well, see for yourself. But this isn’t the first time some fans and critics have taken issue with Zack Snyder‘s vision of the DC universe. Back when Man of Steel opened, one of the most frequently raised complaints was the ending’s high body count. But Snyder’s stood by that controversial finale, and he’s doing so still — this time by taking aim at another giant blockbuster, Star Wars: The Force AwakensRead More »

Grant Gustin in The Flash

By just about any measure, Grant Gustin‘s take on the iconic superhero known as the Flash is a hit. His CW series is beloved by both discerning critics and casual TV viewers, hardcore comics geeks as well as audiences who’ve never so much as set foot inside a comic book store. When it came time for Warner Bros. to cast a big-screen version of the character for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and the other DC movies, however, they went in an entirely different direction, tapping Ezra Miller to don the red suit.

The choice has inspired some head-scratching and grumbling from fans loyal to Gustin’s take on the Scarlet Speedster. Why anoint a new Flash when a perfectly good one is sitting right there and ready to go? But Zack Snyder has now gone on the record to explain why TV’s Flash won’t show up in the DC films. His answer will probably not surprise you. Read More »

new joker images

There is a lot going on in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and it remains to be seen exactly how the film will find time for the Man of Steel, the Dark Knight, an immortal Amazon warrior, an intrepid journalist, an insane industrialist, a badass butler, and whoever the heck Scoot McNairy is playing. On paper, the film looks as stuffed as any major movie in recent memory.

And, at one point, there was even more. In a new interview, director Zack Snyder revealed that the Joker and the Riddler, two of the most popular members of Batman’s Rogue’s Gallery, were once going to appear in the film.

Gerard Butler in 300

Despite being a massive box office success and arguably one of the most influential films of the past ten years, Zack Snyder‘s 300 has yielded only one sequel so far, the tepidly received 300: Rise of an Empire. Still, Snyder has hopes the series could keep going — albeit in a slightly different way than we might have expected.

Earlier this month, Snyder revealed he was considering a 300-style movie about George Washington during the Revolutionary War. Well, as it turns out, that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Snyder says he’s looking at “different incarnations of 300” set in various locations at various points throughout history, including the Alamo.  Read More »

batman v superman - dc movie universe

One of the more interesting topics of conversation at the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice press conference revolved around the creation of the DC movie universe. Director Zack Snyder revealed that the idea of one cinematic universe was not influenced by Marvel (sure…) but instead was the result of the story he wanted to tell in his Man of Steel sequel. The universe came from that idea, and evolved into a much much bigger plan.

the tone of the flash movie

Shortly after the massive success of Christopher Nolan‘s The Dark Knight, Warner Bros. wanted to take the DC universe in a more grounded, possibly darker direction. Not all fans were pleased by the decision, but thankfully this is now old news. No, not all DC Comics movies will be filled with brooding and glowering. The tone of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which Snyder says isn’t as joyless as some suspect, does not completely reflect what we should expect from, say, The Flash or Cyborg.

After the jump, learn more about the tone of The Flash movie.

Batman v Superman

Warner Bros. has a lot riding on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Not only did it cost a ton to make and market, it needs to do well enough to set up the next five years of DC films, including two Justice League movies and a solo Batman outing. So it’s gotta come as a huge relief to hear that the film is doing well in advance ticket sales — really well, actually, beating out pre-sales for other recent hits like DeadpoolFurious 7, and The AvengersRead More »
