Here’s another confirmation to follow the Tom Cruise/One Shot news. The 300 sequel formerly called Xerxes is now 300: Battle of Artemisia, and one of the men previously tipped as possible director, Noam Murro, has been chosen to helm the film. And while Zack Snyder has moved on to Superman, this sequel will be shot in the same visually exaggerated style that looked unique when Snyder applied it to 300 and has since become an action/fantasy cliche. The last time we heard about the 300 sequel Xerxes it wasn’t called Xerxes any longer. We didn’t have a new title then, but now we do. In order to avoid any confusion, the producers are falling back on the title of the first film and appending a subtitle. So now what was Xerxes will hit theaters as 300: Battle of Artemisia. Assuming, that is, that the film is ever shot.
The sequel needs a director at this point, but that field seems to have narrowed down to a few possible choices that include Noam Murro and Jaume Collet-Serra. Read More »
300 was a success that went beyond the expectations of everyone involved in the film, and plans for a sequel were very quickly put into motion. Before anything could happen Frank Miller had to get the sequel going as a graphic novel, and from that director Zack Snyder started working on a script. Despite the fact that he’s now working intensely to make Superman: The Man of Steel, Mr. Snyder has finished and submitted the script for what was until recently called Xerxes.
The film is slowly moving forward, even with Zack Snyder focusing most of his time on Superman. Producer Mark Canton offers a status report, including the fact that the film is currently without a name. Read More »

Zack Snyder has been doing press all week for Sucker Punch, and little bits of conversation about Superman: Man of Steel have been appearing all over the place. None of it is anything substantial, but I think ever clue about how the filmmaker might approach the comic book movie is interesting at this point. He also spoke briefly about the announced 300 prequel Xerxes, which he is unsure if he’ll have the time to actually direct himself. Full details after the jump.

Here’s something that looks like one simple story — a director offered a movie — but in reality it might be something a lot more complex. Zack Snyder broke into the big leagues with 300, based on Frank Miller‘s graphic novel, and has been developing the sequel, Xerxes, for some time. He had planned to script and direct, and as of last summer was writing the script.
Now there’s word that, via Vulture, that Legendary and Warner Bros. have offered Xerxes to Guy Ritchie, who did quite well with Sherlock Holmes and is finishing up the sequel, now called Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. Read More »
Ever since we first heard that Frank Miller was working on a 300 sequel, an immediate question arose: Would Zack Snyder be adapting it as a movie? After Snyder confirmed that he was definitely interested in the project, the question then became: When the hell is Frank Miller gonna get this thing done?
It’s taken three years, but Xerxes has officially started its development from graphic novel to film. Despite the book not yet having a release date (it should be available in the next few months), Zack Snyder has already started writing the screenplay for the film adaptation, along with his 300 collaborator Kurt Johnstad. Learn more about the project after the break. Read More »

Hollywood is fully in thrall to 3D and 3D conversion at this point. The numbers for Avatar and Alice were just too good to pass up. So there’s the upcoming Clash of the Titans to join Alice in the vanguard for post-converted 3D movies (no matter how dodgy it may look) and now Warner Bros, the studio determined to make one 3D tentpole after another, is following suit with conversion and re-release plans for 300.
At ShoWest, director Zack Snyder talked about the conversation test that WB has already done on 300, and mentioned some details on Xerxes, the follow-up to 300 that has been under discussion for some time. Read More »
