D23 Expo 2017

This past weekend, our own Peter Sciretta journeyed to the 2017 D23 Expo to learn all about the various movies Disney and its many partners will be bringing us over the next few years. We learned the latest on Pixar’s upcoming slate, watched footage from upcoming Disney animation projects, watched teasers for upcoming Disney live-action movies, went behind the scenes of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, watched the first footage from Avengers: Infinity War, and saw all kinds of plans for Disney’s upcoming theme park expansions.

Wreck-It Ralph 2

Just earlier this year, the official title for the anticipated Wreck-It Ralph sequel was announced at CinemaCon, and it basically tells us what the movie is about. Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 will follow the titular not-so-bad video game bad guy (voiced by John C. Reilly) as he escapes the arcade and finds himself on the web.

Now the D23 Expo has provided us with a bunch of new details about the Walt Disney Animation sequel, and you won’t believe just how much this sequel is going to expand the world of Wreck-It Ralph. When the video game bad guy ends up stuck in the internet with his pint-sized, candy-haired friend Vanellope von Schweetz, they discover a place where fandoms converge, including Star Wars, Marvel, and Disney princesses. However, in the case of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, we now know that director Rian Johnson shot some key sequences from the sequel with IMAX cameras, just like J.J. Abrams did for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Disney has just announced a new deal with IMAX that includes Star Wars: The Last Jedi being released on the giant screen, along with Star Wars: Episode IX, the Han Solo spin-off that just started production this week, all of the future Marvel Studios releases, and much more. Read More »

Alan Tudyk Frozen 2, Wreck-It Ralph 2, Guardians of the Galaxy

When Disney decides it likes someone, it has a tendency to work with them again and again. And right now, there are few stars they seem to like more than Alan Tudyk. Not only has he appeared in every Disney Animation feature since Wreck-It Ralph — up to and including this fall’s Moana — he has a mo-cap role in this month’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

That won’t be the end of his relationship with the Mouse House, either. The actor confirmed he’ll be back for Frozen 2 and Wreck-It Ralph 2, both of which are currently in development at the studio. But there’s still one Disney property he still hasn’t gotten in on, and that’s Marvel — apparently to his regret, since he’s confessed a desire to join James Gunn‘s Guardians of the Galaxy films. Find out what Gunn had to say in response, below.  Read More »
