Oh the news that can be made out of one sliver of information. Three sequels, one confirmed and two rumored, have updates today all based on a short quote or nugget of confirmation. Even so, each is interesting in its own right and worth a mention. In today’s sequel bits, we’ve got updates on Toy Story 4, Green Lantern 2 and Star Trek 2 based on these facts:

  • Tom Hanks says Pixar is “working” on Toy Story 4.
  • Warner Brothers has reportedly begun developing Green Lantern 2.
  • William Shatner has come out and said he won’t be making a cameo in Star Trek 2.

EpixHD tweeted out this photo of William Shatner, who played Captain James T Kirk in Star Trek: The Original Series taking on Chris Pine, who plays Kirk in the JJ AbramsStar Trek reboot, in an arm wrestling match. It doesn’t get more awesomely geekier than that does it? At first I thought the photo must be a fan photoshop, but after doing a little bit of research, I found that the moment is actually part of a documentary that will be airing on Epix.More details after the jump.

Alicia Witt Joins Free Enterprise 2

Alicia Witt

A sequel to Free Enterprise is finally happening, and over the past couple week’s we’ve been hearing rumblings on the casting front. If you haven’t yet watched Robert Meyer Burnett‘s 1998 indie film, it can be easily described as Swingers for sci-fi geeks. It was about two aspiring LA filmmakers/Trek geeks who meet their screen idol, William Shatner (played by himself), who turns out to be nothing like the person they had imagined. The film has gone on to become something of a cult classic among geeks, and I highly recommend you check it out.

Last week we reported that William Shatner has confirmed that he would be returning for the sequel, with plans to begin shooting later in July. Isaiah Mustafa, the guy who appears in the Old Spice commercials, revealed that he also has a role in the upcoming project while appearing on G4. And last week we noticed some tweets from actresses Eliza Dushku and Alicia Witt talking about a twelve year old movie only a few people have seen. Could they also be involved in the upcoming sequel?

I’ve been hearing about a possible sequel to Free Enterprise for over ten years now. I really thought it was a pipe dream that would never happen. But apparently the sequel is actually happening, likely thanks to the recent jump in Trek popularity thanks to the JJ AbramsStar Trek-reboot.

Burnett has been trying to get a sequel greenlit for years now, and it is now falling into place.

Perfect Casting: William Shatner in Shit My Dad Says

William Shatner

If you’ve been on twitter, then chances are you’ve run across Justin Halpern‘s popular Twitter account shitmydadsays, a collection of crazy and hilarious quotes the 29-year-old writer  father says and he publishes online for all to laugh about. Back in November, it was announced that the twitter account was being adapted into a CBS sitcom, and we called it “the end of the world?” Today we’ve learned a bit more information, and it all of a sudden makes sense:

Will & Grace creators David Kohan and Max Mutchnick are getting ready to shoot the pilot and William Shatner has been cast in the sitcom as the father. Isn’t that the most perfect casting ever? I had no interest in watching this show until now. I even hate sitcoms (of almost all shapes and sizes) and I’m willing to give this a chance. Sadly, the title will probably be changed from Shit My Dad Says to Stuff My Dad Says or Things My Dad Says — it is network television after all.
