SUICIDE SQUAD

At last year’s Comic-Con, we got our first look at David Ayer‘s Suicide Squad. The response to the trailer was enthusiastic, and since then, we’ve seen no shortage of footage, most recently the new extended TV spots highlighting the villains in the ensemble film. If you want another look at the comic book movie, though, then Warner Bros. has unveiled another look at Ayer’s picture just for you.

Below, watch the final Suicide Squad trailer.

Suicide Squad TV Spots

Yesterday, Warner Bros. released an extended promo introducing audiences to Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), “one of the scariest characters in the movie” and the mastermind who puts the Suicide Squad together. One of the leaders of that squad is Deadshot (Will Smith). Smith, who’s probably most famous for playing heroes, stars in David Ayer‘s film as the assassin/supervillain. The newest promo tells you all you need to about the character, including the fact only his friends call him by his real name Floyd.

Below, watch the Suicide Squad extended promo.

SUICIDE SQUAD - Viola Davis as Amanda Waller

Compared to most of the other Suicide Squad cast members, Viola Davis‘ Amanda Waller seems downright ordinary. Unlike most of these other ragtag supervillains, Waller seems completely sane, wields no high-tech firearms or otherworldly powers, and is technically on the right side of the law. She doesn’t even have a colorful style to help her stand out — in her pressed slacks and tasteful pearls, she looks just like any other 50something professional.

But during our set visit last year, producer Andy Horowitz described her as “one of the scariest characters in the movie,” and a new Suicide Squad extended promo reveals exactly how formidable she can be. As Deadshot puts it, in the understatement of the century, “that is just a mean lady.” Watch the new footage below.  Read More »

SUICIDE SQUAD - Joker and Harley Quinn

Even your average non-geek will have a pretty good idea of who the Justice League or the X-Men or the Avengers are. But in comparison, the characters of Suicide Squad are a relatively unknown bunch. Aside from Harley Quinn, none of them are really what you’d call household names. And even if you do know these guys from the comics, the versions in the movie are all-new. No one’s met these iterations yet.

So during our set visit, we got the skinny on all the new bad guys and not-so-bad guys, from Amanda Waller to Deadshot to (of course) the Joker. Get all the new Suicide Squad character details below, including info on their backstories, costumes, and storylines.

Suicide Squad

Earlier this year we got two superhero movies in which the good guys are battling good guys: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Captain America: Civil War. The two films weren’t much alike, but they were both relatively somber affairs, full of anger and pain and sorrow. But what happens when you’ve got bad guys fighting even worse guys? You get something like the anarchic glee of the latest Suicide Squad international trailer.

Directed by David AyerSuicide Squad stars Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, who has the genius idea to force a bunch of supervillains to go on a dangerous mission for the U.S. government. Margot Robbie stars as Harley Quinn, Will Smith as Deadshot, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, and of course Jared Leto as the Joker. Watch the new Suicide Squad international trailer below.

Suicide Squad TV Spots

The release of Suicide Squad is still a couple months away, but Warner Bros. Pictures has already begun the onslaught of marketing on television with a batch of TV spots that debuted earlier this week during the NBA Finals. There’s a lot riding on the next film from the DC Comics cinematic universe after the studio was not happy with the box office performance and reception of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice earlier this year. Thankfully, everything we’ve seen so far paints this as the DC Comics movie that will make fans and general audiences alike very happy.

denzel washington

It’s been almost a decade since Denzel Washington has directed a feature film, which is a bit of a shame, since his two directorial efforts, Antwone Fischer and The Great Debaters, showed he’s capable of far more than acting. After starring in August Wilson‘s Fences on Broadway, the actor has decided to return to the director’s chair and bring Wilson’s story to the big screen.

Get the latest updates on Washington’s Fences adaptation, including new stars and a new studio home, below.

Suicide Squad Trailer Breakdown

You’ve probably already seen the new Suicide Squad trailer that was unveiled yesterday. You may have already seen it a few times because it is one seriously impressive piece of marketing that showcases a tone and style that no one saw coming. Warner Bros. has obviously taken a few cues from how Marvel sold Guardians of the Galaxy to introduce this gang of misfits and oddballs to a wider audience and it works absurdly well. Director David Ayer has cooked up something that takes place in the same world as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but it looks completely different in just about every way.

While the trailer does a fairly good job of establishing the basic premise (the government recruits a bunch of imprisoned DC comics super villains into a task force that is forced to go on dangerous missions), it doesn’t delve into the plot specifics. At the same time, it’s bursting with mysterious images, insane moments, and surprising beats. This thing begs for a frame-by-frame breakdown.

And your wish is my command.

While everyone knows Denzel Washington for his two-time Oscar-winning acting skills, you may forget that the actor has also gotten behind the camera as a director for Antwone Fisher and The Great Debaters. And now he’s preparing for another stint wearing several hats on the movie set as director, producer and star of a new project at HBO.
