Late this summer, it was announced that Stephen King‘s 2009 supernatural thriller Under the Dome would be hitting Showtime as a drama series, with a search for a writer already underway. Now, months later, former Lost scribe and acclaimed comic book writer Brian K. Vaughan has been tapped to pen the show, about a town in Maine that suddenly finds itself sealed off from the rest of the world via a mysterious force field. More details after the jump.

Under The Dome

Stephen King originally mentioned that his 2009 book Under The Dome might end up as an HBO miniseries. Soon after those comments were made, we learned that Steven Spielberg and DreamWorks TV optioned the book. It looks like the plans have changed as Under The Dome will not air as a mini-series on HBO as King originally thought — but instead on Showtime as a dramatic tv series.

Under The Dome

We mentioned last week that Stephen King mentioned that his new book, Under The Dome, might end up as an HBO miniseries. Well, Variety now has word that Steven Spielberg and DreamWorks TV have optioned the book and are looking to set it up as a mini series, likely for cable. Spielberg will executive produce. The story is set in a small vacation town in Maine which becomes covered by an invisible force field which causes the residents to fight for survival, in two warring factions.

While signing copies of his new novel Under the Dome in a Dundalk, Maryland Walmart last night, Stephen King also took part in a decent-length, rapid-fire Q&A that has already been posted to YouTube. You can see the whole thing below the break, or leave it up to me to tell you which bits and pieces I found the most interesting.

  • King says early on in the clip that he “thinks” Under the Dome is “actually” going to be a HBO series. There’s no more info than that, and none more out there so far, but watch this space.
  • When asked if he’d continue the Dark Tower saga, King says that he has one more book to write and it will come between Wizard and Glass and Wolves of the Calla. Don’t forget that we only just reported how JJ Abrams has stepped away from the proposed Dark Tower movie.
