David O. Russell Reveals a Bit More About ‘Uncharted’

David O. Russell is still working on the script for his adaptation of the video game series Uncharted that will potentially star Mark Wahlberg as Nathan Drake and feature Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci in supporting roles. We know that he’s using ‘family’ as the hook for the story, and have already been led to expect quite a few story changes from what is in the game. Now he has explained his take on the story in just a bit more detail. Read More »

It’s that time again to present possible choices for a couple big roles in upcoming films. With Henry Cavill announced for Superman, naturally people are turning to speculation about other big roles in the film. Chief among them is Lois Lane, and there is a rumored shortlist of people who are in the running to play the intrepid reporter.

In addition, David O. Russell has mentioned a couple actresses that are of interest for the equally intrepid Elena in Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune. Read More »

Given the flurry of news on David O. Russell‘s planned adaptation of the video game Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, there have been assumptions that it would be his next film. But we know he’s only half done with the script at this point, which means the film can’t be greenlit, so it may be premature to assume Uncharted is the director’s follow-up to The Fighter.

Another recent option for the director has been the Vince Vaughn film Old St. Louis, but a new report says that won’t be his next one, either. New info says he’ll next tackle The Silver Linings Playbook, of which we haven’t heard anything substantial since March 2009. Read More »

The idea that David O. Russell might direct the video game adaptation Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune seemed rather odd. Sure, he’s done an actionish-movie (Three Kings) and Uncharted is one of the more character-oriented action games out there. But it still seemed like a weird fit.

Then news came out that the director is interested in having Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci play the father and uncle of Drake (Mark Wahlberg), which seemed to put the film a lot closer to the films of Mr. Russell’s past, which dealt with family dynamics in a dramatic, often uncomfortable way. (Even The Fighter, about brothers Mickey Ward and Dickie Eklund, has this angle.)

Now we’ve got more info on Uncharted, including a couple details on just how the story will be expanded from the one in the original game. Read More »

Cool Posts From Around the Web:

Sometimes a healthy skepticism for rumor makes one look foolish when one turns out to be true. Hopefully you can’t blame me for chuckling a bit when we heard that David O. Russell wants Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci to join the cast of his video game adaptation Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune. But according to Mark Wahlberg, who says he’s set for the lead role, that’s exactly who the director is hoping to land. Read More »

Last time we heard about a potential reunion of Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci, it was a pretty credible story. Word was that the actors might both show up (along with Al Pacino) in Martin Scorsese’s long in development The Irishman, based on Charles Brandt’s book I Heard You Paint Houses. But that film is a ways off, so anything could happen. This new story, which drops the two actors into Sony’s upcoming action/adventure video game adaptation Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, is a lot less credible. Read More »

David O. Russell Out of Drake’s Fortune

This was pretty much a given. Ever since the Three Kings and I Heart Huckabees director was announced as being in the running to direct the adaptation of the video game Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, the choice seemed too odd to ever manifest itself as anything more than a fun discussion piece. And as the fates would have it, that’s now the case.

David O. Russell won’t be directing Drake’s Fortune. Learn more about this development after the break. Read More »

Director David O. Russell To Go Uncharted?

We last heard about Sony’s upcoming Uncharted film back in November, when we found out that Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer (Sahara, Conan) had been tapped to write a script based on the bestselling PS3 video game.
