Inspired by Transformers, this High Definition short film not only gives us a real glimpse into the real world of home computers, but also attempts to settle the ultimate debate: what is better – Mac or PC. Ignore the questionable acting, the visual effects by digital compositor Nick Greenlee make this worth watching. Utilizing everything from motion capture animation and HDRI, to massive amounts of tacking and 3D compositing (which can be seen in almost every shot), this short won Best Compositing at Artimation 2008. Watch it in High Definition on nickgreenlee.com.

Last week Universal Studios announced that they would be building a 3D theme park ride based on Transformers. The official press release claimed that Universal was collaborating with director Michael Bay on the attraction, but apparently Bay has yet to approve the concept. Michael Bay writes on his official website:
“They had me in a press release saying I supported it – but Universal has a long way to go in my mind. I don’t support it – I’m not involved and not sure the story of the ride works, and I know Optimus is not going to just show up to be directed by some new people that have never worked with him. I hate when people bullsh*t a quote from me that I never said. I’ll keep you informed. Maybe the guy making the rides at Universal will direct Transformers 3????“

Just in time for Halloween, Transformers Live points us toward Lionel Lum‘s incredible Transformers Bumblebee costume.

Created for the 2008 San Diego Comic Con International, the costume is made out of “foamboard, hobby foam, vinyl signage applique, and is held together with tons of hot glue and some duct tape here and there.”

Lionel says it took him three months to design and build.

He spent 8 hours a day in the suit during the con, and claims it only takes 10 minutes to put on and 5 minutes to remove.

Universal Studios Hollywood and Singapore will be launching a theme park attraction based on Michael Bay’s Transformers. Planned for an early 2011 debut, the ride will use High Definition 3D footage, along with practical special effects and “stunning” robotics (ie expect animatronic giant robots) that according to a press release will “transform perceptions of theme park experiences”. The attraction will replace the former Backdraft special effects show and special effects stages in the lower lot.

According to the press release, track will also be installed, which hints that it will be a moving ride, and not a walk-through attraction. No word on if the storyline will tie into Transformers, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen or a possible third Transformers film. All we know is that the ride will “place humans in the middle of a war between the Autobots and Decepticons”. The Simpsons Ride cost the part a reported $40 million to build, and I would guess that a Transformers attraction would be even more costly.

We’ve featured Jester and Jolin‘s incredible fan-created Transformers concept art in the past (The Dark Knight Tumbler, Trailblazer and Jetfire). Recently the duo created concept art based on the Armadillo, the space drilling vehicle from Michael Bay’s Armageddon. The new autobot apparently even has a myspace page.
