‘Cinema Verite’ Trailer

Reality stars are a dime a dozen these days, but HBO Films’ Cinema Verite takes us back to a time when that wasn’t the case. The film dramatizes the behind-the-scenes action surrounding PBS’ 1973 documentary series An American Family, which HBO’s marketing team is referring to the first reality show. The series followed a Santa Barbara family called the Louds as parents Pat and Bill filed for divorce.

Cinema Verite stars Diane Lane and Tim Robbins as Pat and Bill, Thomas Dekker (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) as son Lance, and James Gandolfini as producer Craig Gilbert. It was directed by husband and wife team Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini (American Splendor, Wanderlust), and written by David Seltzer (1976′s The Omen). Pretty good pedigree, right? Halfway through the new full trailer for Gregg Araki‘s new film Kaboom I’d already decided it looks like a sexually liberated, made for TV Donnie Darko when this quote came up: “A gonzo teen fantasy that’s tripper, hornier and more apocalyptically funny than ‘Donnie Darko’.” Oh, the coincidence!

We showed you some NSFW clips from the film when it was at TIFF last year, and a NSFW teaser trailer just a week ago, but this is the full trailer, from Sundance Selects. It lays out the basics of the film pretty well: really pretty college kids (could the trailer love Thomas Dekker‘s eyes any more?), lots of sex (not as much as in the NSFW teaser) and then some ‘freaky,’ weird stuff. Is this thing serious? Is it a cartoon that exploits classic stereotypes of hot college kids having sex, or a more ambitious piece of storytelling that subverts those same stereotypes? See if you can figure it out, after the break. Read More »

Because I know that casting news on the delayed remake of Footloose is what you’re all more hungry for than anything else, here’s the only casting note that matters this week: Thomas Dekker (Heroes, Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles, Kaboom, A Nightmare on Elm Street) is apparently the latest top candidate to play ‘Two Degrees of Kevin Bacon,’ as, if cast, he’d step into the shoes of Bacon’s classic character from the original film.

Zac Efron and Chace Crawford have both been linked to the film, but in the last few months they’ve passed, and the directorial baton has been handed from Kenny Ortega to Craig Brewer. This isn’t hard and fast casting, though, so there’s still a chance  (There’s also an open casting call for guys 18 and up to play high schoolers.) [LAT]

After the break, better news, because it doesn’t involve the Footloose remake. Read More »

The word on the street is that Sarah Connor Chronicles has been axed by Fox. I can’t say I’d blame them. Should that leave you wondering – by any chance – what will become of that nice young Thomas Dekker chap, I have your answer.

According to Ryan Rotten at Shock Till You Drop, Dekker has been cast as Jesse in the new Nightmare on Elm Street. So… who is this Jesse? I’ll tell you what I know…

First Look: The Sarah Connor Chronicles

The Sarah Connor Chronicles

Check out the first photo from the small screen Terminator pilot, The Sarah Connor Chronicles. The photo above shows Lena Headey (300) as Sarah Connor and Thomas Dekker (Heroes) as John Conner. The television show takes place after the events of Terminator 2: Judgement Day, and years before Terminator 3. The adapted series is written by War of the Worlds scribe Josh Friedman. The series is in line for a late 2007 air date.
