This summer’s announcement¬†that the Captain America sequel had been titled Captain America: The Winter Soldier was met at Hall H with cheers and roars from comic book fans excited to see one of the more memorable Cap stories in recent memory brought to life. For Marvel movie lovers who don’t follow the books, however, the reaction was more of a mild confusion. Just who is this “winter soldier” the title refers to? Why does everyone keep bringing up Bucky Barnes? How does Anthony Mackie‘s Falcon fit in? And what does any of this have to do with Steve Rogers?

A new video making the rounds aims to help out moviegoers who may not be up on recent(ish) developments in Marvel’s print universe, explaining everything you’ll need to know about the Winter Soldier. Keep in mind that potentially major spoilers abound, though it’s always possible directors¬†Joe and Anthony Russo will go in a different direction with their cinematic adaptation. Movie superheroes tend to be faithful boyfriends, sticking with a single love interest for the entire duration of their franchise, or at least a couple of installments. But alas, the specific circumstances surrounding Captain America’s romance with Peggy Carter (i.e., the whole “being frozen in a block of ice for six decades” thing) make it impossible for the pair to reunite in proper fashion.

So the search is now underway for a new lady to star in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and directors Joe and Anthony Russo have reportedly whittled down the options to three excellent actresses: Anna Kendrick, Felicity Jones, and Imogen Poots. More details after the jump.

After The Avengers hit theaters, I had the idea to record a short discussion about the potential future and possibilites for the Marvel movie universe. I consider myself a comic book reader and have a couple shelves of graphic novels to prove it. But I’ve found that know very little about the Marvel universe besides the origin stories and the more acclaimed story arcs of many of our heroes.

Infinity Gauntlet? Thanos? Guardians of the Galaxy? I obviously needed someone who had a better background in the mythology of the Marvel comic universe. So I invited Jeff Cannata, best known as a host on the popculture video web series The Totally Rad Show. I also invited /Film’s own Germain Lussier to the table as he puts together the daily Superhero Bits feature round-up, and knows a lot about the rumors and what has been said or leaked publicly.
