Outside of naming a certain director for a certain sequel taking place in a galaxy far, far away, I can’t think of a better way for Disney to kick off 2013 than looking ahead to three upcoming Pixar films. This year will bring the prequel Monsters University, but we already know the three films on Pixar’s slate after that. 2014 will bring Bob Peterson‘s The Good Dinosaur, 2015 will bring Pete Docter‘s inside the mind movie, possibly called The Inside Out, and then Lee Unkrich will release his latest film, a still untitled movie about a family that takes place on the Mexican Day of the Dead.

Very little is known about Pixar’s upcoming film centered on the Mexican holiday Dia de los Muertos. Originally, all we were told is it would be helmed by Toy Story 3 director Lee Unkrich and be released in, or after, 2015. Next, the director revealed the film would explore the Mexican culture’s unique, celebratory view of death. That got many fans wondering how death, even in a positive light, could fit in a family friendly animated Pixar film.

Disney and Pixar Chief Creative Office John Lasseter has now pulled the curtain back just a little bit more. In a new interview he said that the film is a “really a fantastic story of family.” Read more after the jump. Read More »


At the Disney presentation at CinemaCon 2012, Pixar announced a new project: Toy Story 3 director Lee Unkrich and producer Darla K. Anderson are working on “a wholly original Pixar Animation Studios film that delves into the vibrant holiday of Día de los Muertos.”
