Matthew Vaughn‘s upcoming film, an adaptation of the Mark Millar story The Secret Service, is currently casting its second lead. Oscar-winner Colin Firth has already secured one role, that of an experienced secret agent who is in charge of mentoring a new recruit. Now the production is searching for his counterpart.
Variety reports three actors are currently at the top of the list: Jack O’Connell (300: Rise of an Empire), John Boyega (Attack the Block) and Christian Cook (Magic City). Read More »

Colin Firth is ready to step into the world of comic book movies. The Oscar winner has entered talks to star in Matthew Vaughn‘s The Secret Service, an adaptation of Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons‘ comic book of the same title. Firth would play a James Bond-esque figure who takes his nephew under his wing and grooms him for spy work. More details after the jump.

When Matthew Vaughn dropped out of X-Men: Days of Future Past, many speculated it was because the Star Wars Episode VII job was up for grabs. That may or may not have been the case, but Mark Millar came out and said Vaughn’s departure from X-Men was to collaborate on a project called The Secret Service. Millar wasn’t lying.
20th Century Fox just secured the rights to The Secret Service, based on a comic by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons, adapted by Matthew Vaughn and Jane Goldman, and directed by Vaughn. The comic and the movie follow an older secret service agent who acts as mentor to a new recruit. Fox will reportedly fast track the film, hoping to have it in theaters in 2014. Read More »

Matthew Vaughn‘s abrupt departure from X-Men: Days of Future Past raised some questions, namely why he decided not to move forward. One theory that’s emerged in recent days is that he’s up for the Star Wars VII directing gig, but if a recent comment from Mark Millar holds up, that may just turn out to be so much wishful thinking.

The odds of Matthew Vaughn doing a Kick-Ass sequel may be vanishingly low, but the chances of him working with comics writer Mark Millar again are apparently hovering somewhere around 100%. The director had a big hit this summer with X-Men: First Class and is now considering his next move.
