LatinoReview is reporting that Brendan Fraser has filmed a cameo appearance for G.I. Joe. Fraser plays Gung Ho, a Village People-looking soldier from the toyline, during a training sequence in The Pit. If it was anything more than a cameo, I’d seriously question the logic behind this decision, as the actor hardly looks anything like the actor.

Also, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has apparently been offered the role of the Latino Navy SEAL named Shipwreck. And yes, The Rock is Samoan, so this makes perfect sense. But I’ve learned to stop questioning the logic behind this movie long ago…

At the Southland Tales junket earlier today, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson gave us a big update on the big screen adaptation of the Captain Marvel comic book Shazam! Things have changed and Johnson is now playing Black Adam.
“I just met with Pete Segal last night,” The Rock told /Film. “It was a great meeting on Shazam. We’re just waiting for John August to hand in another draft, which will probably be handed in months from now because of the strike.”

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson revealed some new details for the upcoming re-imagining of Escape to Witch Mountain. Titled Witch Mountain, The Rock reteams with The Game Plan director Andy Fickman.
“It’s going to be a great badass action comedy. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson told me today during the Southland Tales Junket that he was offered a role in the Scorpion King sequel, The Scorpion King: Rise of the Akkadian.
“They came to me and asked for a cameo but I passed on it.”
The Rock also confirmed that he will not be featured in Rob Cohen’s The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.

Since the now infamous Cannes Film Festival screening which resulted in a wave of bad buzz like never seen before, Richard Kelly has been trying to do damage control on his sophomore effort, a follow-up his hit cult first film Donnie Darko. Southland Tales has been re-cut, enhanced with new special effects (which evident in the trailer are not too impressive), and is said to be a totally different movie. Cinematical has posted the new theatrical poster for Richard Kelly’s Southland Tales, and it doesn’t look good.
Don’t get me wrong. I want Southland Tales to be good. Even if it isn’t good, I want it to make money just because I feel Richard Kelly somehow deserves it. But when a movie distributor clearly has no idea how to sell a film, or starts using deceptive marketing materials, that is usually a sure sign that the film will fail at the box office. A little bird on my shoulder is telling me that the trailer for Richard Kelly’s Southland Tales will most likely hit the web tomorrow. In anticipation, we present you with this new clip [via: filmick] which we swear we’ve somehow seen before (so maybe it isn’t new? My memory fails me). The shot scene features The Rock, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Seann William Scott talking about a movie idea/script. Check it out after the jump.

Dwayne “Don’t call me The Rock” Johnson has signed on to the Disney remake of Escape to Witch Mountain. What has happened to Johnston as of late? He has a promising career in medium level Hollywood action flicks. Even his turn in Gridiron Gang wasn’t bad. But now he’s going from one Disney family comedy (The Game Plan) to another Disney family comedy. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing, I’m sure Disney movies offer a big paycheck. But how are we supposed to take The Rock seriously as an action hero if he’s doing all these kiddie flicks? Is that partly what hurt Arnold Schwarzenegger’s persona/career?

Someone sent us some new photos from Richard Kelly’s Southland Tales. But first some news for Mandy Moore fans: A month ago Mandy Moore made a comment, wondering if she still appeared in the movie, after director Richard Kelly announced that the film had undergone major reedits:
“I play The Rock’s wife in the movie, if I’m still in the movie at all,” Moore told Sci-Fi. “They had to cut it down so much, and maybe they just cut out my character altogether.”
Mandy Moore fans need not worry, Kelly has confirmed:
“Mandy Moore is still very much in the film… and very little of her role was cut.”

Director Peter Segal, stars Steve Carell, The Rock, Masi Oka, Ken Davitian, and Nate Torrence were in attendance to debut the first video clips from the big screen adaptation of Get Smart during the Friday morning Warner Bros panel at Comic-Con 2007.
The clip begins with a voiceover telling us that “There has always been a delicate balance between Kaos and Control. Now with that balance threatened, its time to turn to one man. Cut to Steve Carell as Maxwell Smart. Anne Hathaway as Agent 99 comes up to him from behind with a gun and shouts “Freeze!” Carell replies “No you freeze” “What? When I was a kid I use to watch a lot of Get Smart on Nick at Nite. Now-a-days, most people under 25 don’t even know what Get Smart is. And at first a big Hollywood adaptation of the show sounded like a horrible idea. Heck, it didn’t work out so well for Bewitched, another great 90’s era Nick at Nite show. Steve Carell was cast in the lead, opposite Anne Hathaway and The Rock. In addition to the great cast, I started to read interviews about the script and production. The more I learned, the better it sounded. And now we have our first look at the teaser trailer. [...]

Last night we posted the movie trailer for The Rock’s new family sports comedy film The Game Plan (groan). Cinematical has released the theatrical poster, which looks even worse. As always, left click to see a larger version.
I think our friend Chris at Movie Marketing Madness said it best: “Note to all studio executives, Big, manly guys with a reputation for action movies all of a sudden being thrown into a domestic situation with a cute kid is a pitch that should be avoided.”
And yes, this does remind us of Vin Diesel’s The Pacifier all over again. The new poster also confirmes the Fall (aka Football Season) release date.

Oscar winner Alan Arkin is reuniting with his Little Miss Sunshine co-star Steve Carell in the big-screen version of Get Smart. I’m glad to see that Arkin hasn’t sold out after getting that gold statuette.
Arkin will play the chief of CONTROL, the rganization that fights the evil forces of KAOS. Anyone who has seen the tv show would agree that Arkin is a perfect fit for this role.
Previously reported: Steve Carell (40 Year Old Virgin) will play Maxwell Smart, and Anne Hathaway (Devil Wears Prada) will play Agent 99. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson (Agent 23) and Terrence Stamp also have been cast.

Improvisational comedy has always annoyed me (I liked Borat, but who didn’t?). Unlike other forms of comedy, the moments in between the laughs are squiggle in you seat bad. When it doesn’t work, it REALLY doesn’t work. I’ve never tried watching Reno 911! on tv, nor did I ever have the urge to. So I’m probably the worst audience for a feature film spin-off movie. While entering the theater I realized there was a Zodiac screening two theaters over from me (which press wasn’t invited to).
