Five Michael Bay Audio Commentary Recommendations

Five Great Michael Bay Commentaries

Michael Bay‘s commentaries are great entertainment. He never disappoints with his tracks. He’ll tell you when someone wasn’t doing their job. He’ll tell you when he had to yell. And he’ll always tell you when he was “the first” to use a new camera, government aircraft, or whatever super-expensive new toy he got to play with.

If you want to know how Michael Bay became Michael Bay, these commentaries give you a good idea of how he reached his level of success. While not included in this month’s recommendations, it should go without saying you should listen to the Armageddon and Pearl Harbor audio commentaries. Ben Affleck is on fire in both. The Pearl Harbor track is hours of Affleck making Josh Hartnett giggle.

Below, check out our five Michael Bay commentary recommendations.

The Rock

Michael Bay directed three Transformers movies about Sam Witwicky, and two about Cade Yaeger, but only one about maybe his most likable action heroes, Stanley Goodspeed (Nicolas Cage) and John Patrick Mason (Sean Connery). Over 20 years after The Rock opened in theaters, sadly Bay isn’t attempting to reunite Cage and a retired Connery, but he did have an idea for how to get them back together. The Rock sequel would’ve picked up where the first movie left off, with Goodspeed and Carla (Vanessa Marcil) hitting the road with government secrets in hand.

Below, learn more about Bay’s idea for The Rock sequel.

Over the Summer, I got the great opportunity to talk with filmmakers Ron Clements and John Musker about their upcoming Walt Disney Animation Studios film Moana. Ron & Jon are animation legends, having worked on many great Disney animated movies over the years, including The Great Mouse Detective, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Hercules, Treasure Planet and The Princess and the Frog.

Over the course of our discussion, Ron and Jon talk about how the project developed with Maui originally set to be the main character of the story, how Thor Ragnarok director Taika Waititi brought to the script, developing the musical elements, Lin-Manuel Miranda writing songs for The Rock to sing, how Mad Max: Fury Road helped inspired an action sequence featuring the Kakamora in the film. Big Trouble Remake

A year ago we learned that The Rock would be starring in a big screen remake of Big Trouble In Little China, but we haven’t heard much about it since then. Sometimes when you don’t hear about a film project for a long time you just assume that it could have fallen into development heck. I thought this might be the case with The Rock’s Big Trouble remake, especially since the action star keeps getting attached to so many new projects, like the Jumanji remake and the Robert Ludlum cinematic universe. I mean, how much time does this man have?

But according to Dwayne Johnson, the film is still in the works. Find out what The Rock said, after the jump.

Jungle Cruise movie

Dwayne Johnson isn’t just doing a voice for one of the main characters in the Disney Animation film Moana; he said at D23 that one of his main career goals was to work in Disney movies, and now he’s making the bounce to live action. The Rock is also going to star in the latest ride-to-movie project Jungle Cruise.

The film, based on a ride that was in place when Disneyland first opened its doors in 1955, has been in development for a few years, but bringing The Rock on board indicates some new energy for the old idea. Read More »
