The Hunger Games Mockingjay teaser

The Lionsgate marketing team continues to knock it out of the park with the first The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 teaser. Rather than dishing out the usual 20-second melange of explosions and one-liners, they’ve delivered a beautifully creepy piece of Capitol propaganda, read by President Snow (Donald Sutherland) himself.

At first, the video seems innocuous enough, with Snow extolling the virtues of peace and unity and whatnot. Then the camera pulls back to reveal his new friend, and… well, see for yourself. Hit the jump for the full The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 teaser.

Film Fall Preview

On Monday morning, we reported Philip Seymour Hoffman had shot enough of his The Hunger Games: Mockingjay role before his passing that the release dates for the two-parter have not shifted. According to insiders at the studio, the late Hoffman still had one major scene left to shoot when he died. The filmmakers are now scrambling to work around his absence, possibly by digitally inserting him into some scenes. More details after the jump.

Philip Seymour Hoffman as Plutarch Heavensbee in The Hunger Games Catching Fire

When Philip Seymour Hoffman tragically and suddenly passed away this weekend, he left behind a couple of not-quite-finished projects. One is the two-parter The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, in which he reprises the role of Plutarch Heavensbee from The Hunger Games: Catching Fire; another is Showtime’s Happyish, which was set to star Hoffman as an ad exec trying to change his life.

While the former shouldn’t be delayed too much by his passing, the latter seems to be in jeopardy. Get updates on both after the jump.

Casting on The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Parts 1 and 2 began well before its predecessor, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire even opened. And now that Catching Fire‘s record-setting opening has squashed any remaining doubts about the future of the franchise, Mockingjay is only going to pick up steam.

Prison Break star Robert Knepper is the newest name to sign up for the highly anticipated sequel, joining fellow series newcomers Julianne Moore, Natalie Dormer, and Lily Rabe. What’s really interesting about his casting, though, is that he seems to be playing an original character created just for the movies. More about his role after the jump.
