Ronda Rousey movie

It took Ronda Rousey all of fourteen seconds to defend her championship by winning her bantamweight title fight against Cat Zingano during UFC 184. Afterwards, it didn’t take Rousey much longer to sign for her next film. She’ll fight alongside The Raid star Iko Uwais in Mile 22, a buddy thriller that will hopefully only team up Rousey and Uwais after giving them a chance to show down in a scene or two.  Read More »

Whiplash short film

When Whiplash exploded at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival on the way to this 2015 Academy Awards, it wasn’t a huge surprise to some. The year prior, director Damien Chazelle had presented a short version of the film. It won the Short Film Jury Prize at the festival for “its wicked sense of humor, fantastic ensemble acting and razor sharp directing.”

Based on the strength of that short, Chazelle funded the feature length version and got into Sundance the next year. The rest is history. The feature, which stars Miles Teller and Best Supporting Actor Oscar winner J.K. Simmons, won both the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award at Sundance then rode that success to multiple awards all the way to multiple Oscars.

Until now, the short that started this all has not been online. But with the Blu-ray of Whiplash being released last week, the short is now available for everyone to see. Watch the Whiplash short film below. Read More »

Get Hard

Here’s one good argument for getting past racial stereotypes: Make the wrong assumptions, and you could find yourself getting stabbed or sucking a guy off as ill-advised “prison training” from some guy who’s never received so much as a parking ticket.

That’s the premise of Get Hard, the new comedy starring Will Ferrell as a hedge fund manager sentenced to a maximum security prison. In desperation, he seeks help from the first black guy he sees — an upstanding small business owner played by Kevin Hart. Watch the Get Hard red-band trailer after the jump.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 story

James Gunn has been very honest that he’s going to be adding characters to Guardians of the Galaxy 2. That’s what happens in a sequel. The universe gets expanded, flipped on its head, some characters die, others go away, anything is possible. The bigger question is who, or in the Guardians galaxy “what,” is going to be added to the sequel? Since the movie is over two years away, we won’t get that full reveal for a while but the writer and director dropped a cryptic hint about a new addition on Twitter.

Below, read James Gunn’s cryptic tease about a new Guardians of the Galaxy character and our thoughts on who it may be. Read More »

Cool Posts From Around the Web:

sharknado 3 president

Syfy has announced some new casting for Sharknado 3. It seems like this mockbuster franchise is increasingly being stuffed with celebrity cameos, some of which make little to no sense. (Much like the plot of these films, I’m sure some would say.) The latest casting includes Mark Cuban as the president of the United States of America. I’m a fan of Cuban’s and have been following him online for many years, and the reality television series Shark Tank has certainly brought him into the mainstream. The choice of right wing political commentator Ann Coulter to play the Vice President, however, seems like a move made to stir controversy. Jared Leto Joker

In 2014, Jared Leto won an Oscar for his performance in Dallas Buyers Club. In 2015, that meant two things. He could do any role he wanted and he had to appear at awards shows to present. We know the role he chose, Joker in David Ayer‘s Suicide Squad, and we all saw the actor at the Oscars, sporting long, flowing locks and full beard. He looked decidedly un-like the Joker.

Well, the first step in Jared Leto’s physical transformation into the Clown Prince of Gotham City has begun. Plus Ayer described the character using one kind of surprising word. Below, check out the Jared Leto Joker preparation.

UPDATE: See a second photo from the film’s director too.

Laurent Durieux Godfather II header

As a film fan, one of the eternal debates is The Godfather vs. The Godfather Part II. Both films won Best Picture and both films are all time classics. No one is disputing that. But forced to choose one, do you choose the rise of Michael Corleone as his father, Don Vito Corleone, passes on? Or do you choose the epic dual story of the Corleone family’s beginning, with Vito’s rise to power, alongside its expansion, as Michael broadens and splits the family? It’s a Catch 22, Sophie’s Choice if ever there was one and a debate that’s sure to go on forever.

On the poster side, though, this debate has been closed.

Last year, Odd City Entertainment debuted their official Godfather license with a beautiful piece by Laurent Durieux. Today, they’ve revealed part two of the poster trilogy, also by Durieux. And no knock on the artist himself, but his version of The Godfather Part II blows the original away. See the full Laurent Durieux Godfather Part II poster, and get all the details, below.
