Another video game adaptation, another opening sentence about whether or not this will finally be the one to break the dreaded video game movie curse! At the very least, the upcoming adaptation of The Division is starting to stack itself with talent, first with stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain and now writer/director Stephen Gaghan.

Nobody outside of Netflix knows exactly how many people watch anything on everyone’s default streaming service, but the numbers are high enough for everyone involved to keep investing in original shows and movies. They’re also large enough to attract major talents. Netflix is responsible for an upcoming Will Smith movie. A Will Smith movie!
Which brings us to today’s little morsel of news: Ubisoft, the video game publisher responsible for its fair share of popular titles, is looking to get into the Netflix business. With a Ubisoft Netflix tv series possibly in the works, which video game property might they be looking at for a small screen tv show?

Last month, Jake Gyllenhaal signed on for an adaptation of the Ubisoft video game The Division, despite the fact that his last attempt to bring a video game to the big screen didn’t go very well. But hey, he could have better luck this time. Especially now that he’s got a very capable co-star to help him out. Jessica Chastain is reportedly looking to join Gyllenhaal in the movie, which he is also producing with Ubisoft Motion Pictures’ Gerard Guillemot. Read More »
Jake Gyllenhaal didn’t fare very well with the big screen adaptation of Ubisoft’s video game Prince of Persia, but that’s not stopping him from teaming with the video game company for another movie based on one of their recently popular titles. Tom Clancy’s The Division is getting turned into a movie, and Gyllenhaal is attached to lead the film.
