the crow reboot

The reboot of The Crow is coming in for a landing at Sony.

After gestating for nearly 10 years at Relativity Media, then drifting aimlessly in development hell after the studio went bankruptThe Crow will finally bring to modern day the 1994 supernatural action movie (based on the comic of the same name) that originally starred Brandon Lee as the undead man bent on vengeance.

the crow remake

Will The Crow remake see the light of day anytime soon? The project has been a revolving door for talent over the years. Some good actors – Bradley CooperJack Huston, and Luke Evans – have been enticed to star in the film before departing. Right now, Jason Momoa (Justice League) and director Corin Hardy (The Hallow) are on board, but the director is about to go off and shoot The Conjuring 2 spinoff, The Nun. The promising filmmaker left the project, only to later return to it.

News has been quiet on The Crow recently, but the re-adaptation’s executive producer and former director, F. Javier Gutiérrez (Rings), who hasn’t heard much about The Crow Reborn (the current title) recently, says they’re developing an R-rated film. Below, read what else he had to say about the comic book film.

‘The Crow’ Flies Away From Relativity

The Crow leaves Relativity

The tragic saga of Relativity’s The Crow reboot continues, this time with an unexpected twist: it’s not actually Relativity’s The Crow reboot anymore. The project has left its longtime nest at the studio, landing now with Davis Films, Highland Film Group, and Electric Shadow.

Edward R. Pressman, who produced the 1994 movie starring Brandon Lee, remains on board to produce the new film. However, it’s unclear what this means for director Corin Hardy and star Jason Momoa, who are the latest in a long, long line of director/star combos who’ve tried to get The Crow off the ground. The Crow reboot shooting in 2017

Relativity’s The Crow reboot has had so many stops and starts over the years, it’s gotten hard to keep track. It’s gone through several potential directors and as many potential stars, it’s weathered legal troubles and financial woes, and all along it’s suffered the deep skepticism of fans. So I totally understand if you don’t quite believe this next sentence. According to a new report, The Crow will begin shooting in January with director Corin Hardy and star Jason MomoaRead More »

Jason Momoa to Lead ‘The Crow’ Remake

Jason Momoa the Crow

The story behind Relativity’s The Crow remake is practically as full of struggle and hardship as the plot itself. For a while it was a revolving door of talent, unable to hold on to a director or star long enough to actually start shooting. Then, just when it looked ready to take flight with director Corin Hardy, it was crippled by Relativity’s financial woes.

But now the film could finally get off the ground, with still on board and a new leading man at the forefront. Jason Momoa, the former Khal Drogo and the current Aquaman, is reportedly closing in on a deal to play the undead vigilante at the center of the Crow remake. Previous actors considered for the role include Jack Huston and Luke Evans. Read More »

the crow

Relativity’s remake of The Crow cannot catch a freakin’ break. Director Corin Hardy has just been removed from the project, after initially signing on back in 2014. His name is just the latest on a growing list of stars and filmmakers who’ve parted ways with the project over the years. The news comes amid still more drama at Relativity, which filed for bankruptcy last year.  Read More »

the crow remake

The past week must’ve been rough for director Alex Proyas. His career has had its ups and downs, including his scrapped adaptation of Paradise Lost, but these last few days, in particular, haven’t been great. Critics ripped Gods of Egypt apart and audiences didn’t show up for the pricey adventure movie.

Following the disastrous opening, Proyas then wrote a Facebook post criticizing reviewers of his latest, making both fair and unfair points. As the director mentioned, even two of his most beloved movies, Dark City and The Crow, weren’t huge hits with critics during their theatrical releases. The latter even became a big enough hit that it has been gearing up for a remake for years — which Proyas would rather not see happen.

Check out the Gods of Egypt director’s thoughts on the remake below.
