A few months back, news broke that Con Air director Simon West was going to be remaking The Blob. It sounded like a smart move as The Blob is a horror franchise that’s somehow simultaneously incredibly well-known, but also not incredibly popular. Everyone has heard of it and knows the premise just based on the title, but the number of people who actually champion the films is much smaller. That’s just the right formula for a remake.
Now, the director has explained a few more details about his Blob remake. He compares the Blob itself to the villains of the Alien and Predator franchises and says, in the same way dinosaurs are made believable in Jurassic Park, The Blob will be believable in this. Just when I was hoping that Rob Zombie would step away from remakes/sequels, and return to direct an original project, we’ve learned that the rock musician turned filmmaker has signed on to write, direct, and produce a remake of the 1958 horror classic The Blob.
