When it comes to superhero movies, fans are sticklers. They don’t want the Andrew Garfield Spider-Man films to link to the Tobey Maguire films. That wouldn’t make sense. They get angry when a studio casts the Human Torch as Captain America. How can one actor be both? The lone exception in all of this might be J. Jonah Jameson, played by J.K. Simmons. There’s no other character and actor pair that fans are not only willing to accept crossing film “universes” — they demand it.
The Amazing Spider-Man director Marc Webb got around this by not including the character in his films at all, but in a new interview, Simmons said he’s heard Spider-Man might be coming back. And he’d love to return, too. Read and listen to the J.K. Simmons Spider Man quotes below. Read More »

UPDATE: As expected, Sony denied this rumor. Disney wouldn’t comment. Read more below.
Today’s juicy rumor comes from the land of Marvel. We all know about the talks Sony and Marvel Studios had over the last year about what to do with Spider-Man. Marvel wanted him back. Sony was open to sharing after The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Both sides discussed it, but as far as we know an agreement could not be reached. The original plan was for the web-slinger to appear in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War. For now, as far as we know, Spider-Man remains at Sony, maybe appearing in The Sinister Six or The Amazing Spider-Man 3, if those movies even happen.
Well, the latest rumor doesn’t know what’s happening with Spider-Man at Sony but believes the company was able to work out a deal with Marvel. But since Captain America: Civil War will be in production very soon, the next opportunity for the character to appear is Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 in 2018. Which, supposedly, is what’s going to happen. Read more about the Spider Man Avengers 3 rumor below. Read More »
The Sony hack has taught us many things. On the movie side, it has taught us that Sony really does care about Spider-Man. They might not know what to do with him but there’s no doubt everyone is looking at every possible option for the character. You’ve probably already read a bit about the Sony talks with Marvel to get the character to appear in Captain America: Civil War, or of a possible animated movie by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, or of Marvel’s desire to recast Andrew Garfield. Now a few more details have leaked.
Turns out, the discussions with Marvel went a little deeper than we initially thought, with many different angles examined about how that marriage could work. Plus, there was a major internal discussion about how they could possibly reboot the franchise for a third time, avoiding the origin story and maybe even adapting one of the most popular Marvel Comics Spider-Man stories of all time.
Below, read the latest on plans to possibly reboot Spider-Man again. Read More »
What’s the deal with Spider-Man? It’s the question fans have been asking all summer. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was a major disappointment in almost all respects; following its debut grand plans to continue the franchise were completely reshuffled. As it officially stands right now, Drew Goddard‘s Sinister Six film will be out in 2016 and The Amazing Spider-Man 3 will follow in 2018. There will also be a female-focused film sandwiched somewhere in the middle. That’s all official via Sony.
However the latest rumors suggest some, if not all of that might not be true anymore. Yesterday, the very reputable Drew McWeeny at Hitfix said he’d heard rumblings Sony was talking to Marvel Studios about working out some kind of deal for a crossover. Then today, the equally reputable Devin Faraci at Badass Digest said that’s just one of the possibilities he’s heard Sony is considering with the characters. The others are a “soft reboot” with the Sinister Six, completely shelving the character for a few years, and canceling the planned Venom movie. There’s no mystery about the fact that superhero films have become one of the dominant forms of the movie business in the US, but the success of Marvel’s universe-building approach is still resounding as other studios race to catch up. Two rumors today are directly concerned with the ways in which other companies are trying to get a piece of Marvel’s success. One says that Fox is developing an X-Men TV series, while another report claims that Sony and Marvel are knocking together a way in which Spider-Man could end up in a Marvel film. Read More »
