I can’t tell whether it’s that the footage of Tarsem Singh‘s Mirror Mirror is truly getting better, or whether I’m just developing some weird cinematic version of Stockholm Syndrome. But after kind of hating the first trailer, the film started to grow on me with yesterday’s featurette, and now this new international trailer has me kind of, sort of, actually looking forward to seeing it.
The new video offers up a bit more than the previous one did in terms of plot, and serves up some fresh jokes as well. Lily Collins stars as the fairytale princess, while Armie Hammer plays the handsome prince, Julia Roberts the evil queen, and Nathan Lane her pitiable sycophant. Watch the video after the jump.

The Great Snow White Showdown of 2012 has been brewing for about a year and a half now, but it looks like we’ll have to wait just a tiny bit longer to see how things shake out. Mirror Mirror has pushed its release date back by two weeks from March 16 to March 30, the better to take advantage of spring break and the Easter holiday. Snow White and the Huntsman is still scheduled to open June 1.
In the meantime, though, we have a couple of new looks at both in the form of a behind-the-scenes video from Mirror Mirror and a just-released photo of Kristen Stewart in Snow White and the Huntsman. The more we see of each, the clearer it’s becoming that whatever their respective strengths or weaknesses, the two movies are very different beasts. Hit the jump for more.

For years we didn’t hear much at all about Tarsem Singh (The Cell, The Fall). But his new film Immortals opened a week ago to generally negative opinion (I liked it more than most, though I’ll never argue that it is ‘good’) and the trailer for his family-oriented Snow White comedy Mirror, Mirror just hit this week.
Now we’ve got word on a possible next film from the visually obsessive director: the noirish fantasy thriller Killing on Carnival Row, penned by Pacific Rim writer Travis Beacham. Read More »

After months of hearing all about Tarsem Singh‘s “sickeningly kiddie” Snow White project Mirror, Mirror and glimpsing the bright, colorful images from the set, we finally have our first look at some actual footage from the film. The very first official trailer has now hit the web, and it looks… well, see for yourself.
Mirror, Mirror features Lily Collins as the classic fairy tale princess, with Julia Roberts as the Evil Queen, Sean Bean as the King, Armie Hammer as the handsome prince, and Nathan Lane as some guy named Brighton that I don’t remember from my childhood storybooks. Watch the video after the jump.

Whether it’s this weekend’s violent Immortals or next spring’s “sickeningly kiddie” Mirror, Mirror, the common thread running through all of director Tarsem Singh‘s works is a focus on uniquely striking imagery. After all, this is a man who once explained to a Comic-Con audience that “I start with a good visual, and see if the story will fall in.” So on that level, it makes quite a bit of sense that his dream job is apparently to direct a live-action feature version of Samurai Jack, the stylish Cartoon Network animated series that aired between 2001 and 2004. It may or may not be a good news, depending on how you feel about his oeuvre, but it’s not especially shocking news.
No, what’s much more surprising is that his next project won’t be that movie, or actually anything else that sounds like it’s remotely in the Singh wheelhouse. The filmmaker has said that wants to shift gears completely and focus on a small, talk-y film in the vein of My Dinner with Andre or Knife in the Water. After months and months of being referred to as “Relativity Media’s untitled Snow White project,” Tarsem Singh‘s take on the classic fairy tale finally has a title. The name they’re going with is Mirror, Mirror, which seems like a pretty obvious pick in retrospect.
Interestingly, the news comes just a few days after director Singh said in an interview that if it were up to him, he’d simply call it Snow. At the time, he said the decision wasn’t his to make, and that one of the reasons the movie took so long to get a title had to do with “legal stuff being sorted out.” In the same conversation, he described his own film as “sickeningly kiddie” and explained why his interest in creating a children’s film isn’t so surprising after all. Two Snow White films have been in production since summer, and we’ve already seen images from one, the action-oriented Snow White and the Huntsman, starring Kristen Stewart as Snow White. Now here are the first images from the other, Relativity and Tarsem‘s currently untitled Snow White movie starring Julia Roberts, Armie Hammer and Lily Collins.
These pics show Collins as Snow White, surrounded by dwarfs; Julia Roberts as the Evil Queen; and Armie Hammer as the prince. They suggest a sort of family-friendly comedy. We knew the film would have a comedic tone, but this is more bright than I expected. Check out more images below. Read More »
Unless you’ve been staring into your mirror, mirror on the wall for the past year, you know there are two competing Snow White films being released in 2012. There’s Universal’s dark, epic action film Snow White and the Huntsman, directed by Rupert Sanders, starring Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron and then there’s Relativity’s lighter, family-oriented Snow White, directed by Tarsem Singh, starring Lily Collins (above), Armie Hammer and Julia Roberts. The former is scheduled for June while the latter will be out in March.
While both projects are still in production and very much shrouded in secrecy (save for some concept photos here and there) screenwriter Jason Keller, who wrote the Singh project, has revealed some interesting behind the scenes details about the film.
