After years of development projects trying to get a movie about Alfred Hitchcock on the screen, two are coming close to fruition. The first is Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho, based on Stephen Rebello‘s book of the same title. (Rebello co-scripted with Black Swan writer John McLaughlin.) The film has had Anthony Hopkins set to play Hitch for a while, and just moved from Paramount to Fox Searchlight. And now Helen Mirren will likely play Hitchcock’s wife Alma Reville.

Sacha Gervasi (Anvil! The Story of Anvil) is directing this one, the subject of which should be pretty evident from the title, and THR says that this deal is still in early stages, but the film hopes to shoot in April.

After the break, part of the creation of The Birds will hit HBO and the BBC. Read More »

Paul Weitz is scripting and directing an adaptation of the Nick Flynn memoir Another Bullshit Night in Suck City and he has a hell of a cast assembled: Paul Dano plays Nick Flynn, who runs into his down and out father (Robert De Niro) while working at a Boston homeless shelter. Olivia Thirlby plays the romantic interest who gets Flynn the job at the shelter, and Julianne Moore is now onboard as well.

The info comes from a casting call looking for a stand-in for Julianne Moore, so we don’t have any official info on her role at this point, but something is likely to be out soon as the film starts shooting next week in New York City. (Edit: Deadline confirms the casting, but only says she has a ‘small role.’) The film is currently working under the shortened title Another Night in Suck City, but even that seems likely to change. We’ll keep this one quick because, well, it’s another casting report about New Year’s Eve, the sorta-spinoff romcom from Valentine’s Day director Garry Marshall. The film already has Robert De Niro, Ashton Kutcher, Sofia Vergara, Halle Berry, Zac Efron, Jessica Biel, Michelle Pfeiffer, Abigail Breslin, Hilary Swank, Sarah Jessica Parker, Jon Bon Jovi, Seth Meyers, Til Schweiger and Sienna Miller set to appear.

Now The Wrap says that Josh Duhamel has signed on, but doesn’t specify his role. I know you’re on pins and needles. But wait! THR comes to the rescue, verifying that report and adding that he’ll be one of the leads, “a hopeless romantic who spends the day trying to get to New York in the hope of getting to a party in order to re-meet a mystery girl from the previous year.” Meanwhile Ice ‘Fuck tha Police’ Cube is in talks to play a NYPD cop who is working in some capacity with Hilary Swank’s character, the director of the Times Square celebration. And Ryan Seacrest has the best role of all: himself.

Gravity

After Angelina Jolie exited Alfonso Cuarón‘s 3D sci-fi thriller Gravity, the search for a replacement began. Last week, Latino Review learned that the producers behind the project were “interest[ed] in meeting Rachel Weisz for the role.” However, Deadline found out that Weisz was just one of the many names on the producer’s list of actresses they’ve talked to or screen tested: Sandra Bullock, Natalie Portman, Naomi Watts, Marion Cotillard, Carey Mulligan, Sienna Miller, Abbie Cornish, Rebecca Hall, Olivia Wilde, Scarlett Johansson and Blake Lively.

Now Risky Business has learned that Natalie Portman has been offered the role, as the studio approved the actress without requiring a screen test in the wake of the early Black Swan reviews. According to the report, Portman is expected to read the latest version of the script this week and make her decision shortly.

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra Character Posters

Paramount Pictures has released four new character posters for Stephen Sommer‘s big screen live-action G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. The posters were on display at a licensing fair in June, but Filmz.ru is the first site to have official scans. The posters feature (clockwise) Ray Park as Snake Eyes, Marlon Wayans as Ripcord, Channing Tatum as Duke, and Sienna Miller as Baroness. What is with Paramount’s marketing department and their obsession with desaturated character shots recently?

From the Egyptian desert to deep below the polar ice caps, the elite co-ed GI JOE team, based from it’s headquarters The Pit, deploys the latest in next-gen spy and military equipment to fight crooked arms dealer Destro and the growing threat of the mysterious COBRA organization from plunging the world into chaos.

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra hits theaters on August 7th 2009.

Sienna Miller as Bloody Baroness

Sienna Miller as The Baroness in GI Joe

IESB got a couple shots of Sienna Miller in costume as the bloodied Baroness in Stephen Sommer’s live-action GI Joe movie. Taken on the streets of Prague, where G.I. Joe is currently filming, these photos feature Sienna Miller in skin tight black leather toting a big gun. The Baroness serves as the COBRA Organization’s intelligence officer and lieutenant to Cobra Commander. In both comic and cartoon incarnations, the ruthless femme fatale has had romantic relationships with Destro. G.I. Joe hits theaters on August 7th 2009.

First Look: The Cast of GI Joe [High Res]

Update: We’ve updated this story with high resolution photos that Paramount sent us.

Paramount has released photos of the cast of Stephen Sommer’s live-action G.I. Joe movie.

Destro

Chris Eccleston as James McCullen Destro XXIV. McCullen’s Military Armaments Research System is the largest manufacturer of state-of-the-art weaponry, providing high-tech arms to any side able to meet his price and will incite war where it does not exist. Unfortunately the character photo was taken before McCullen’s face was disfigured, and covered by A swarm of nano-mites, giving him the iconic metallic mask, which allows the Cobra Commamder to control his mind. I think it would have been much cooler to show what Destro looks like in the mask. This photo is just a lame photo of a business man standing in-front of a vault that reads “MARS”.

Storm Shadow

Byung-hun Lee as Storm Shadow, the white ninja a henchman and adversary for Snake Eyes. Throughout their history, the duo have been everything to one another from the bitterest of enemies, to the most loyal of friends (and blood brothers) who would fight and die for one another. He is the only member of the team to change sides several times, conflicted in loyalties between Cobra, G.I. Joe and his long relationship with his swordbrother Snake-Eyes.

Heavy Duty

Former Lost star Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Heavy Duty, who serves as the G.I. Joe Team’s heavy ordnance specialist with a passion for classical guitars and Bach. He is described as being unafraid of any situation despite heavy enemy fire.

Breaker

Saïd Taghmaoui as Breaker, the team’s original communications officer who has a habit of chewing bubblegum in any situation. He is also familiar with practically every bit of communication gear on the planet.

The Baroness

Sienna Miller as The Baroness. Baroness serves as the COBRA Organization’s intelligence officer and lieutenant to Cobra Commander. In both comic and cartoon incarnations, the ruthless femme fatale has had romantic relationships with Destro.

General Hawk

Dennis Quaid as General Hawk. He looks anything but tough, and the opposite of cool.

Duke

Channing Tatum as Duke, a First Sergeant and field commander who is second-in-command of the G.I. Joe Team after Hawk. At least his body armor looks cool.

Ripcord

Marlon Wayans as Ripcord, ranked Sergeant, an Airborne and demolition specialist of the G.I. Joe Team.

Snake Eyes

Snake Eyes

Ray Park as Snake Eyes, one of the original members of the GI Joe series. Hasbro has released over 30 figures of the character since his debut in 1982. Not much is known about the ninja master’s real identity, as it has remained classified throughout the series. The U.S. Army Sergeant First Class (E-7) is known for his stealth like movements and extensive knowledge of multiple forms of martial arts. Snake-Eyes is romantically involved with fellow G.I. Joe member Master Sergeant Shana M. O’Hara, a.k.a. Scarlett.

Scarlett

Rachel Nichols as Scarlett. Ranked Master Sergeant, red-headed Scarlett is the first female character in the GI Joe action figure line. Her weapon of choice is the crossbow (pictured in the promo photo), and her specialty is counter intelligence.

G.I. Joe hits theaters on August 7th 2009.
