Another day, another set of new posters for comic book adaptations. Tuesday brings brand new looks at both Robert Schwentke‘s R.I.P.D. starring Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds as well as yet another banner for Zack Snyder‘s Man of Steel starring Henry Cavill, Amy Adams and Michael Shannon.
Both posters expand on previous ones, adding action and scope. In the case of R.I.P.D., that’s accomplished by adding a slew of new elements: vortexes, explosions, and hovering police cars. For Man of Steel, the task is simpler: pull back and fly away. Check out the posters below. Read More »

Perhaps there’s a minor demographic out there that was desperate to see Jeff Bridges parody his True Grit role in a Men in Black knockoff. That would be one easy way to explain R.I.P.D., in which Bridges plays a dead lawman who, with the help of another dead lawman (Ryan Reynolds) fights evil from the afterlife.
The film, directed by Robert Schwentke (Red), is based on a comic book series, and the vibe of this trailer definitely seems more reminiscent of the Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones films, with some Ghostbusters thrown in for good measure. Oh, and Bridges’ character is seen by humans as a hot woman, just to shoehorn one extra bit of weirdness into the story. Check out the trailer below. Read More »

Day 2 at CinemaCon began with a presentation from Universal Pictures.
Last year Universal arrived in Las Vegas with many goods — even previewing footage from films in production for only a few days — showcasing their line-up up until December 2013. This year they came to CnemaCon with a more conservative approach, screening footage only from their slate scheduled through this summer.
After the presentation I receorded a video blog with Alex from FirstShowing, giving our brief reactions to footage screened from R.I.P.D., Despicable Me 2 and Fast & Furious 6. Watch the video blog embedded after the jump.

Along the way we’ve seen a few set photos, heard rumblings of behind the scenes problems, and wondered when the marketing would kick in. The answer to that last question is “now” as Universal Pictures released the first poster for the film at CinemaCon in Las Vegas.
