It has been fun to watch Disney remind audiences about The Muppets as it prepares to release a new feature starring Jim Henson’s classic characters. There have been some creative, playful trailers and a poster that was a little bit unusual as Muppet depictions tend to go — Muppets with legs! But this new international poster is a pure and simple old-school look at the crew, with no humans allowed. You’ll probably love it. Read More »

Casting Bits: Elijah Wood in ‘Celese and Jesse Forever;’ Colin Hanks in ‘My Mother’s Curse;’ Paul Schneider in ‘Baby Makers’
Posted on Friday, May 27th, 2011 by Russ Fischer
We reported on the last round of casting for Celeste and Jesse Forever just the other day, when Emma Roberts, Ari Graynor and Chris Messina joined the cast of the film that follows Rashida Jones (who co-wrote) and Andy Samberg as a couple who tries to maintain their friendship while still living in the same house during their divorce. Now Elijah Wood has signed on as well; THR says he’ll be “Celeste’s business partner, a metrosexual who tries to be her ‘saucy gay friend.'” I’m not sure if that means the character is gay, or if he’s a straight guy who tries to play that role with Celeste (Rashida Jones). Either way, I’ll be happy to see Elijah Wood do outright comedy, since we don’t often see him in that mode on the big screen.
After the break, Colin Hanks continues his hot streak and Paul Schneider breaks his lizard. Read More »

We reported not long ago on Celeste and Jesse Forever, which has Rashida Jones not only starring, but co-writing the script with Will McCormack. Andy Samberg was also in the first round of cast picks, and now Emma Roberts, Chris Messina and Ari Graynor have signed on, too. The film is a comedy that quite a few people will be able to relate to, as it follows a young couple in the middle of a divorce who try to maintain some sort of friendship while still living together. One film I’ve been looking forward to is Our Idiot Brother (formerly known as My Idiot Brother), which premiered at Sundance earlier this year to warm, if not spectacular, reviews. Jesse Peretz‘s dramedy stars Paul Rudd as a good-hearted but dim man who gets passed around between his three sisters (Elizabeth Banks, Zooey Deschanel and Emily Mortimer) as he tries to get his life together after his latest set of mishaps — one of which involved selling weed to a uniformed police officer. He’s that dumb. Watch the trailer after the jump.

Since the beginning of his career, Dwayne Johnson has rotated between action roles, comedy roles, and family roles. His latest project will fall solidly into the “action” part of his resume. Johnson has signed on to star in Snitch, directed by Ric Roman Waugh (Felon).
The script was written by Justin Haythe (Revolutionary Road), with a rewrite by Waugh. Johnson will play a father who goes undercover to help catch a drug dealer when his son is falsely imprisoned for drug dealing. Although the script sounds like typical action fare, it’s actually based on a Frontline documentary about anti-drug laws. How closely it follows true events remains to be seen, but considering that the real story doesn’t sound all that much like an action thriller, I’m guessing not very.
After the jump, Rashida Jones finds an ex-husband in Andy Samberg for her breakup comedy Celeste and Jesse Forever.
‘Monogamy’ Trailer and Poster – From ‘Murderball’ Director Dana Adam Shapiro, Starring Chris Messina and Rashida Jones
Posted on Thursday, February 3rd, 2011 by Adam Quigley
The narrative feature debut from Murderball co-director Dana Adam Shapiro, Monogamy was well received when it premiered at the 2010 Tribeca Film Festival and even better received at the 2011 Independent Spirit Awards, where it’s garnered a nod for Best First Screenplay. The film follows a bored Brooklyn-based photographer (Chris Messina) who, amidst doubts about getting married to his fiancée (Rashida Jones), develops an unconventional side business where clients hire him to stalk them with his camera. It’s described as marrying “a mystery-thriller with a slice-of-life relationship drama to present a marvelously observed portrait of masculinity in crisis in the face of its own fantasies and fears of commitment”. Check out the trailer after the break. Read More »

One of the more eye-catching comedies playing at Sundance is My Idiot Brother, which stars Paul Rudd (and his beard) as Ned, a guy who is passed around between his three sisters (Elizabeth Banks, Zooey Deschanel, Emily Mortimer) after he tries to get back on his feet in the wake of a string of foolish failures. That’s the first image, above, and there’s another after the break. Read More »

There’s quite a lot of small casting news for The Muppets tonight. Jason Segel and Amy Adams have the key roles, and obviously the other biggest parts will mostly be played by the Muppets. Now Jane Lynch, Donald Glover, Danny Trejo and possibly more are on board. Read More »
