On March 25th, we had the opportunity to talk with most of the stars of Grindhouse. We will be posting the interviews leading up until the film’s release on April 6th 2007.
We sat down with Rose McGowan (Scream, Jawbreaker) to talk about her role as the gun legged stripper in Robert Rodriguez’ Planet Terror. McGowan’s character was also featured in Tarantino’s Death Proof.
Our friends at FilmIck have found some single bill posters for Grindhouse’s Planet Terror and Death Proof. The posters, which can be seen above, were created for the separate foreign release of the movies. Left click on the images for a higher resolution version. I find it very strange that the poster for Planet Terror promises the “coming attractions from Quentin Tarantino” when the Pulp Fiction director didn’t create any of the faux trailer included in Grindhouse (or at least as far as I’m aware). It makes me wonder if these posters are legit.
Grindhouse hits theaters on April 6th.
Just when we thought Quentin Tarantino was finally going to focus on his WWII epic Inglorious Bastards, we learn that he already has plans for a Grindhouse sequel.
According to Variety, “Rodriguez and Tarantino want to keep the Grindhouse series going. For his part, Tarantino wants to shoot an old-school Kung Fu movie in Mandarin with subtitles in some countries, and release a shorter, dubbed cut in others.”
But didn’t he kind of do this with Kill Bill? Not that I’m complaining, I’m an obvious Tarantino mark that would probably pay to see any movie he makes. But my current theory is that Tarantino is trying to challenge my interest in his [...]
Clerks filmmaker Kevin Smith has seen Grindhouse, and he loved it.
“F***king fantastic. So insanely good. Three hours long, but I’d have sat through it again, had they offered to re-run it. See it as soon as you can,” wrote Smith. “I think, after Sin City, it might be Robert’s best flick to date. Totally fun and really enjoyable. And Death Proof plays like The Sixth Film From Quentin Tarantino. Loved it. F***king loved it.”
Grindhouse hits theaters on April 6th 2007.
Inglorious Bastards will be Quentin Tarantino’s next film, according to the Grindhouse director.
“That will probably be the very next thing I do,” Quentin told /Film at the Grindhouse junket. “Robert will probably be doing Sin City 2 coming up fairly shortly. I am going to kind of go on the road with this, around the earth here. I haven’t really done it in a big way in a long time where you spend six months doing it. But I also like writing on the road, it’s a really good time to do that so I will probably finish up ‘Inglorious Bastards’ while I am promoting ‘Grindhouse’.
Bastards is the project Tarantino [...]
On March 25th, we had the opportunity to talk with most of the stars of Grindhouse. We will be posting the interviews leading up until the film’s release on April 6th 2007.
First up, we sat down with Josh Brolin (The Goonies, Hallow Man) and Marley Shelton (Pleasentville, Sin City) to talk about their dysfunctional doctor/nurse relationship in Robert Rodriguez’ Planet Terror. Shelton’s character was also featured in Tarantino’s Death Proof.
At SXSW, Robert Rodriguez announced a feature length Machete movie, based on the popular fake Grindhouse trailer. At this weekend’s Grindhouse junket we were able to grill Robert for more details on this new project.
“When I started doing the trailer and as soon as we started showing it to people they said we want to see this movie. Bob Weinstein even said that ‘I want to see that movie.’ So I thought we would probably make it then. If audiences respond to it the way I think they might then I think we’ll make it.”
Quentin Tarantino jumped in:
“Robert pretty much has about 40 minutes of it anyway just from the [...]
Yesterday we reported that Grindhouse earned an R-Rating, days after Page Six suggested the film would be stuck with an NC-17 without massive cuts. We speculated that some of the more controversial sequences were probably cut for the theatrical release. Now co-director Robert Rodriguez checks in with an update.
Did You Know: Dreamgirls star and Academy Award winner Jennifer Hudson auditioned for Quentin Tarantino Death Proof segment of the Grindhouse exploitation double feature.
“Jennifer auditioned for my movie GRINDHOUSE, and it didn’t work out. But I love her,” admits Tarantino.
I bet Tarantino is regretting his casting decision now. I’m guessing that Hudson was probably gunning for the role that eventually went to either Rosario Dawson or Tracie Thoms.
PageSix is reporting that Grindhouse is headed for an NC-17 Rating.
“Some of it is so graphic and outrageous for a major Hollywood studio, there’s no question it’s headed for an NC-17 without big cuts,” says Page Six.
Pulp Fiction director Quentin Tarantino hates the idea of being called a professional film maker. He says he would rather think of making movies as a hobby and not a job.
“I don’t want to be a professional. I’m not in the Director’s Guild; I don’t want to be. I like holding on to my amateur status,” said Tarantino.
So I guess that makes Tarantino one of the most talented amateur filmmakers alive today.
Other notable big name directors who are not part of the Guild include: George Lucas (who split with the organization over a credit sequence in The Empire Strikes Back), Robert Rodriguez (who quit in a dispute over whether he [...]
Before Quentin Tarantino made Pulp Fiction and Grindhouse, he was a struggling actor. Did You Know: Tarantino once appeared as an Elvis impersonator in a Golden Girls episode? IGN has the photos to prove it (one of them can be seen above). This is one of those things I’ve always heard about, but haven’t seen until now. Check out the pictures at IGN.com.
