Briefly: It has a director and a release date, and now Pitch Perfect 2 has its biggest stars. In what was pretty much a no-brainer, Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson have both signed on to star in the a capella sequel already set to hit theaters on May 15, 2015. Co-star and producer Elizabeth Banks will make her directorial debut from a script by Kay Cannon.
In the first film, Kendrick and Wilson were the breakout stars. Having each sign to return was likely the most crucial dealmaking for the returning cast. With them locked in, things are full steam ahead. Aca-excellent. [The Hollywood Reporter].
Universal Pictures just dated seven major upcoming releases including three in 2015. The biggest titles are Guillermo del Toro‘s Crimson Peak, which will hit regular and IMAX theaters October 16, 2015 and Pitch Perfect 2, which’ll be out May 15, 2015. There’s also Baltasar Kormákur‘s star-studded Everest on February 27, 2015 and the Platinum Dunes film Ouija on October 24 of this year. Read about all those and more below. Read More »
Aca-awesome! Pitch Perfect 2, the sequel to the 2012 hit, is scheduled for release in 2015 and a director has just signed on to take the reigns. It’s none other than Elizabeth Banks, the actress who co-starred and produced the original film. The sequel will mark Banks’ feature directorial debut. Read More »
In a year’s time, when I’m looking at the films of 2015 and crafting my most anticipated lost, a lot of pretty obvious ones will be on there. One that’s a little less obvious is Pitch Perfect 2. The 2012 original was a deep breath of fresh air, with its pop culture specificity, nearly gross out humor, and aca-awesome acapella singing. It grossed $113 million worldwide against a $17 million budget and Universal is expecting a sequel in 2015.
One of the film’s stars is also its producer, and that’s Elizabeth Banks. The versatile actress will soon appear in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and when I talked with her about her expanded role in that film, I simply had to ask her about the latest with the 2015 sequel. She didn’t offer up much, but when there’s so little information out there at all, something is better than nothing. Read More »
Briefly: Good news for Pitch Perfect fans is coming out of CinemaCon in Las Vegas. The head of Universal Pictures, Adam Fogelson, just revealed the studio’s plan to have the Pitch Perfect 2 in theaters in 2015. Cool Posts From Around the Web:
One of the best times I had in the theater all year was with Jason Moore‘s a capella musical comedy, Pitch Perfect. Starring Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson, the film had a high-energy pace, catchy tunes and an evil sense of humor that made it feel like Bring It On with singing. After turning a decent little theatrical profit, Pitch Perfect hit Blu-ray this week and with that comes news of a possible follow up. A ca-awesome!
In a new interview, the film’s male lead, Skyler Astin, said he has a meeting coming up to discuss a possible sequel and he believes Rebel Wilson took the meeting as well. “[A sequel] is definitely a talking point,” he said. Read more after the jump. Read More »
