Once you’ve seen a movie a few times, the main story just isn’t as exciting. Your eyes begin to wander around the frame seeking other details. You might find surprises the filmmaker put in there on purpose, or happy accidents, but either way, the best movies always find ways to reward a viewer over and over again.
A movie that definitely fits that description is the first Pitch Perfect. It’s an immensely entertaining and rewarding film that gets better with every single rewatch. Want to know why Pitch Perfect 2 just made $70 million at the box office opening weekend? It’s because fans watched the first film so many times, they were dying for something new from the characters.
Since its release, I’ve watched Pitch Perfect dozens of times and have gotten to a point where the big moments aren’t my favorites. Instead, I’ve become semi-obsessed with some smaller moments. Forty-five of them, to be exact. Some of these are tiny nuances in a performance, weird line deliveries, or an odd piece of production design. Others are funny lines, random asides, touching moments, or scenes that I look at in a different way than most people. Either way, add this odd collection of randomness with the obvious stuff, like the music, and you’ve got a fantastic movie that made a really great sequel.
Below, read along with what I feel are the most random, funny, under-appreciated and best Pitch Perfect moments.

This weekend brings the sequel Pitch Perfect 2 to theaters, featuring a wonderful showcase of music created by Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Brittany Snow, Hailee Steinfeld and more. Their group The Barden Bellas trots around the globe in an effort to win the world championships of a cappella. Their slick mash-ups and catchy harmonies have made them a sensation on the big screen, and Kendrick even turned into a radio hitmaker with her cute song “Cups.”
But The Barden Bellas aren’t the only musical groups on film that know how to jam. There are plenty of other fictional bands from cinema that give us a toner (a musical boner). Below, I’ve rounded up my picks for the Top 15 Best Bands in Movies. Did your favorite big screen musical group make the cut? Find out after the jump! Read More »
I’m in Las Vegas for the yearly CinemaCon convention (formerly ShoWest) which is the largest gathering of movie theatre exhibitors. The convention is filled with talks about how to maximize profits and a show floor filled with the newest and best concessions equipment. More notably, most of the major movie studios hold presentations of their upcoming film line-ups for the next year and beyond, and some even show some of their films early to get some excitement from those booking the screens.
This morning we saw a presentation from Paramount Pictures showcasing some of their big upcoming films including Terminator Genisys, Mission Impossible Rogue Nation, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2, Star Trek 3, Zoolander 2 and more. After the presentation I recorded a spoiler free CinemaCon Paramount reaction video reaction with Steve from Collider, which you can watch that now embedded after the jump.

April isn’t even 48 hours old but at the movie theater, summer has already begun. With tonight’s opening of Furious 7, the trend of major blockbusters opening well before the first weekend in May continues. Fast Five, The Hunger Games and Captain America: The Winter Soldier are a few recent examples; next year, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will open over a month before the traditional first weekend of summer. Let’s face it. It might be Spring outside, but it’s Summer at the movies.
With that in mind, the /Film crew decided to rank our most anticipated films of the season. Everyone on staff (Peter, Russ, Angie, David, Devindra, Angie, Chris, and myself) ranked their 20 most anticipated movies of summer 2015, those rankings were given point values, and then an overall list was created.

The new Pitch Perfect 2 trailer is out and this time the stakes are bigger. Think: global. This time, the Barden Bellas literally compete in a worldwide a cappella competition. While the first trailer gave a hint of what this meant for the movie, the new one takes it a step beyond. As it says in the trailer, the world is about to get pitch slapped.
Pitch Perfect 2, directed by Elizabeth Banks, stars Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Brittany Snow and Hailee Steinfeld. It opens May 15 in the US. Watch the new Pitch Perfect 2 trailer below. Read More »

When we weren’t crying over the Nationwide ad, singing along to Katy Perry’s halftime show, or screaming / cackling at Pete Carroll’s ill-fated fourth-quarter call, we were oohing and ahhing over the many many Super Bowl movie trailers unveiled last night.
Everything from Ted 2 to Tomorrowland was represented, with more robots, dinosaurs, flying cars, and college a cappella singers than you could shake a stick at. Watch all of the 2015 Super Bowl movie trailers after the jump. Read More »
How do you sell a movie about girls singing a capella songs during the Super Bowl? You include one of the final four NFL teams in it, of course. The Pitch Perfect 2 Super Bowl commercial was more or less similar to the first trailer but with some significant extensions, including the inclusion of the defense of the Green Bay Packers. If Hollywood plays its cards right, there’s no way 2015 shouldn’t break every single yearly box office record on the books. The calendar is simply jam packed with huge movies. They may end up being good, or maybe they won’t, but either way they’re going to put asses in seats. These are films audiences are excited for. Films they demanded. In some case, films we’ve been waiting years to see or never thought we’d actually see.
All that said, there’s an embarrassment of potentially awesome movies coming out during 2015. I considered at least 50 before cutting back down to a top ten that really speak to my personal tastes. Then I threw in ten more for good measure. Either way, there’s no doubt that, as great a year as 2014 has been for film, 2015 undoubtedly has it beat in the “potential” column. Especially when it comes to those big time Hollywood blockbusters I tend to get really excited about.
So, without further ado, here are my most anticipated films of 2015. Read More »
