Well, this is a trailer for a trailer, but it still has some of the first footage most of you will see from Ridley Scott‘s Prometheus. This is some of the same video that was shown in Hall H at Comic Con this summer, with Ridley Scott sitting on a set that looks like it came right out of Alien. (And he is still trying to say that this movie is only barely connected to Alien!) There isn’t much here, but I imagine it will be more than enough to get you excited about what we’ll see when Prometheus really makes its grand debut when the trailer drops this Thursday. Hit the jump for the preview.
Update: There is a second preview video that seems like it was meant to arrive tomorrow, but which has been found online early. Read More »

Just over a week ago we saw the first real batch of photos from Ridley Scott‘s Alien prequel, Prometheus. I’m anxiously awaiting the first real trailer for the film, having seen the Comic Con footage and a glimpse of the bad trailer bootleg that also surfaced last week. (It’s not worth watching, so don’t bother to seek out the bootleg if you haven’t already seen it — seriously, just wait for the real thing.) I don’t know if this film is going to be any good, but I think it is going to be a joy to look at, if nothing else.
To tide us over until the trailer hits, here are the same images that were released not long ago, but in very nice high-res quality. Now you can check out all the little details. From these few images the ‘Alien DNA’ that Ridley Scott mentioned when announcing the movie is so very apparent. And, as I’m sure others have remarked, doesn’t that giant head look more than a bit like original Alien conceptual artist and effects designer H.R. Giger? Alien DNA, indeed.

If you haven’t been lucky enough to catch Paramount’s unannounced screenings of Young Adult in your town, you can still get an early look at the film here in the form of three newly released clips. Jason Reitman‘s latest collaboration with Juno writer Diablo Cody stars Charlize Theron as young adult author Mavis Gary, who returns to her hometown and attempts to win back her now-married high school sweetheart (Patrick Wilson).
The buzz around the film is that it’s almost uncomfortably dark, with Mavis as an interesting but very unlikeable character — and these clips seem to confirm just how messed-up she is, as she faces off against a hotel worker, fails to remember an ex-classmate played by Patton Oswalt, and schemes to steal her ex-boyfriend from his wife. Watch them after the jump.

Here’s a slightly different trailer for Jason Reitman‘s new film Young Adult. The film is scripted by Diablo Cody and features Charlize Theron as Mavis, a struggling, damaged author who heads back to her home town to win back her old flame, played by Patrick Wilson. Trouble is, he’s a married family man. Not that it really matters to Mavis. She’s determined to bulldoze her way back into his life.
As in the other trailer you may have seen earlier today, Theron’s character is announced as a giant bitch with the opening chords of David Bowie’s ‘Queen Bitch’ well before someone in the trailer gets around to calling her out on it. From there, we’re treated to a collection of moments of Mavis being terrible to others, and to herself. We’d heard the movie was supposed to be very dark, even uncomfortable. So far, that’s on point. But moments with Patton Oswalt lighten the mood a bit, if not quite in the way we’re used to seeing from him.
This trailer swaps out the clothes shopping gag that hits towards the end of the ‘clean’ trailer for a slightly more raunchy joke. Check it out below. Read More »
Here’s the warning up front: if you prefer to learn some of the character and story points of Ridley Scott‘s sorta-Alien prequel Prometheus only through the eventual trailer and film release, beware of what follows. There aren’t big super-serious spoilers below, but there might be a tidbit or two you don’t want to know yet.
Damon Lindelof, brought on to the project by Ridley Scott and who ended up rewriting the Alien prequel script that Jon Spaihts had penned, is well versed in keeping secrets. But in a recent chat he gives up a few details about Prometheus that add to the recently-released synopsis and might answer a few questions you’ve had about the movie. Read More »

Details about Ridley Scott‘s Prometheus have been kept under such tight wraps that after years of reporting on the project, we still don’t have a whole lot of specifics on what it’s actually about. Even the official synopsis posted by Fox a few months back gave away next to nothing in terms of plot; it confirmed only that the film would be a “science fiction epic” about a group of characters taking some kind of journey to an unspecified world.
So we’re very intrigued to see that a new synopsis has been unveiled, which gives away just a little bit more about the storyline and may confirm an earlier rumor. Read more after the jump.

It’s too bad that Sony, David Fincher and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo have already locked down the ‘feel-bad movie of Christmas’ tagline, because it looks like Jason Reitman‘s fourth film Young Adult might be a contender for that title.
The movie, scripted by Juno writer Diablo Cody, is a dark comedy about an alcoholic youth-lit author (Charlize Theron) who returns to her hometown to chase her now-married high school flame, played by Patrick Wilson. The one-sheet for the movie has just hit, and it looks like something that could be snuck onto a middle-school bookshelf alongside old Judy Blume books. With that portrait of a passed-out Theron, the youth-lit derived poster is in the running for most inspired design of 2011. Check it out in full below. Read More »
Briefly: Rumors had been around for some time, but now we’ve got official confirmation: at some point actor Patrick Wilson (Watchmen, Little Children) joined the cast of Ridley Scott‘s Prometheus. We don’t know his role or how significant a part he’s got in the movie. In fact, while quite a few rumors have hit the internet, and a good many spy pics have floated around, the real meat of the film’s story remains somewhat obscure. (You can read potentially very spoilerish plot details here, though we don’t know to what degree they are accurate.) I don’t want to run most of the set photos that have hit, but suffice to say that they bear a very distinctively Alien influence.
The cast features Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Sean Harris, Kate Dickie, Rafe Spall, Logan Marshall-Green and Guy Pearce. No footage is online at this point, but I recapped the Comic Con footage presentation here. I think people will be fairly happy with the look of the film when Fox releases an official trailer. Prometheus opens in 3D on June 8, 2012. Patrick Wilson also has a part in Jason Reitman’s upcoming Young Adult, which hits on December 16 of this year.
