TV watchers probably know Nick Offerman as mustachioed parks department director Ron Swanson on NBC’s Parks & Recreation, but we’re starting to see more of him on the big screen as well. Swanson’s upcoming movie roles include the Sundance hit Smashed and the high profile comedies 21 Jump Street and Casa de mi Padre, as well as two more indies due out later this year. We can now add to the list Lamb of God, Diablo Cody‘s directorial debut.
Cody’s script follows a young woman (Julianne Hough) whose faith is shaken after a horrible plane crash. She ditches her family and church and heads to Las Vegas for a taste of the wild life, encountering all manner of folk (including Russell Brand and Offerman’s Smashed co-star Octavia Spencer) along the way. Offerman’s role has not been revealed at this time. [Deadline]
After the jump, Josh Duhamel and Dan Fogler buddy up, while a Black List script lands some stars.

Last year, Will Ferrell shot a Spanish-language comedy called Casa de mi Padre, with co-stars Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna. The movie seems to be both a loving ode to and a send-up of classic Mexican telenovellas. A trailer appeared in April and was taken down not long afterward, but we haven’t heard much at all about the film since then.
Now a small label, Pantelion Films, has picked up US distribution rights to Casa de mi Padre and will have the movie in theaters on March 16, 2012. Read More »

We write up casting stories several times a day here at /Film, but it’s not every day we come across an ensemble cast as intriguing as this one. Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Aaron Paul, Nick Offerman, and Octavia Spencer are set to team up for the indie marriage dramedy Smashed, from director James Ponsoldt (Off the Black).
If you, like me and much of the Internet, are a fan of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Breaking Bad, and Parks & Recreation, I probably don’t have to explain to you what’s so exciting about that roster. Though I am torn between hoping that Smashed will allow them to stretch and demonstrate their range as actors, and wishing that I could just watch a movie about Ramona Flowers, Jesse Pinkman, Ron Swanson, and Minny Jackson from The Help hanging out. More details after the jump.

Sad as I am to see summer go, there is something I’m really looking forward to about the coming months, and that is the advent of the television’s regular season. After a long summer away from my imaginary friends in Pawnee, Greendale, and Lima, I’m eager to check back in and see what the new premieres have to offer. Hit the jump to see:
- The beginnings of a triple-Tammy drink-off in a preview for Parks & Recreation Season 4
- Greendale Community College literally dancing for joy in the promo for Community Season 3
- Those crazy New Directions kids up to their usual tricks again in a spot for Glee Season 3

Breakout star Melissa McCarthy has signed up for ID Theft, which will team her with the ubiquitous but charming Jason Bateman. As suggested by the title, the comedy follows a man who becomes the target of identity theft. Bateman will play the victim, and McCarthy the thief. McCarthy’s role was originally written for a man, but Bateman (who’s also producing) pushed to cast McCarthy in the part after seeing her inspired, scene-stealing performance in Bridesmaids.
Shooting for ID Theft will begin April 2012, at the start of McCarthy’s hiatus from Mike & Molly. The script was originally written by Steve Conrad (The Pursuit of Happyness), and is currently in rewrites with Craig Mazin (The Hangover Part II). [Deadline]
After the jump, new gigs for Natalie Portman and Parks & Recreation lovebirds Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally.
