Here’s the full trailer for Brad Bird‘s first foray into live-action, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. This follows the same basic opening thread as the teaser trailer before kicking into gear with more story, suspense and action. There are some visual callbacks to past films in the series, and Simon Pegg gets a good moment. UPDATE: The prologue is actually six minutes, not eight. Independent sources have also confirmed the story.
A trusted theater (read: exhibitor) source has just exclusively alerted /Film that Warner Bros. plans to attach a six minute prologue to The Dark Knight Rises to all IMAX prints of Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. Christopher Nolan‘s third film in his Batman trilogy is being released by Warner Bros. and Brad Bird‘s first live action film is Paramount, but the arrangement would certainly be mutually beneficial as Mission: Impossible is the biggest IMAX release of the holiday season. Putting a teaser for The Dark Knight Rises in front of it would certainly drive audiences to that format as opposed to regular theaters. There’s more after the break. Read More »
The past few hours saw a whole bunch of release date shuffles as both of Steven Spielberg‘s 2011 releases, The Adventures of Tintin and War Horse, got new US dates, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol will now open five days earlier than planned, but will only play in IMAX for those days, and Gangster Squad gets a 2012 release date that positions it for Oscar. Details on all four films, including some quotes from M:I director Brad Bird about the old-school thinking behind the IMAX plan for his film, are after the break. Read More »
One of the first official promo shots we saw from Brad Bird‘s Mission: impossible – Ghost Protocol was a shot of Tom Cruise looking sultry, serious and rather Marshall Mathers-esque in a grey hoodie jacket. Now the first one-sheet for the film is out, and it recycles that image, with the recognizable Mission: Impossible burning fuse superimposed at the bottom. Read More »

Today in Unremarkable Photos: here are two new shots from the Gary Ross-directed adaptation of The Hunger Games, featuring Jennifer Lawrence as heroine Katniss and Josh Hutcherson as Peeta. There is also a new shot of Tom Cruise in Brad Bird‘s Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, in which Ethan Hunt looks as if he’s been listening to a whole lot of Eminiem, circa 8 Mile. Guess that Eminem song was used in the trailer for a reason.

This December’s embarrassment of riches for film fans just got a little easier to navigate. Paramount has slightly shifted the release of Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol from December 16 to December 21. That moves it away from the similarly action packed Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (and Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked) on the 16th and puts it up directly against David Fincher’s The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Then, two days later on the 23rd, the flood gates really open with The Adventures of Tintin, The Darkest Hour and We Bought A Zoo.
Plus, another Paramount/Cruise property, the Christopher McQuarrie-directed One Shot, has just been given a February 8, 2013 release date, more or less assuring it’ll be Cruise’s next film after Rock of Ages but before Oblivion. Read why we think the release dates shifted after the break. Read More »
