A Cure For Wellness hails from a remarkable craftsman. Director Gore Verbinski‘s latest has more to offer than beautiful and grotesque imagery. He’s continually heightening, in big and small ways, the film’s unholy atmosphere, as the camera moves smoothly from one creepy room to the next.
One of those menacing rooms is the steam bath, where Dane DeHaan‘s character first begins to experience what he can’t explain. If you want to know how Verbinski and everybody pulled off that sequence, then hear the director provide commentary for A Cure for Wellness scene below.

Gore Verbinski‘s The Ring is still one of the creepiest experiences I’ve ever had in a theater, so I couldn’t be more thrilled to see that, after several years of directing big-budget blockbusters, he’s back to trying to scare the hell out of us with A Cure for Wellness. Dane DeHaan stars as an ambitious young executive who’s sent to retrieve his company’s CEO from a hydrotherapy spa in the Swiss Alps. Once he arrives, though, it becomes clear the idyllic retreat isn’t exactly what it appears.
Jason Isaacs stars as the doctor who runs the facility, and Mia Goth a mysterious young woman who’s also at the spa. Watch the new A Cure for Wellness trailer below. Read More »

International trailers have a nasty habit of spoiling far too much. They’re typically overlong, too. But that’s not the case for this great international trailer for Gore Verbinski‘s A Cure for Wellness, a movie billed as a psychological thriller that’s advertised as more of a horror film. This latest one-minute preview teases Verbinski’s latest thriller with some chilling imagery and body horror.

Director Gore Verbinski is coming off the biggest bomb of his career. Verbinski last directed The Lone Ranger, a movie which might’ve lost Disney $150 million. The western was greeted with a mostly negative response from audiences and critics, although it has some fans, especially when it comes to the film’s intricate, often dazzling third act set piece. For his follow-up to the Disney flop, The Ring director returns with A Cure for Wellness. Verbinski’s upcoming film stars Dane DeHaan (Life), Jason Isaacs (Green Zone), and Mia Goth (Nymphomaniac).
Below, check out some A Cure for Wellness promos.

The name Gore Verbinski has complicated connotations. For a while, it inspired excitement in film fans. Now, that excitement cooled considerably, thanks in part to the director’s multiple years making bad, big-budget Disney movies. He’s trying to reclaim his name, though, and just took a significant step towards doing so.
Verbinski has committed to making a supernatural horror film called A Cure For Wellness, which follows a man who travels into the Swiss Alps to find his boss, only to be trapped in a mental institution. Dane DeHaan will play that main character and actress Mia Goth is in talks as well. The film will be written by Justin Haythe, who did The Lone Ranger with Verbinski but also wrote Sam Mendes’ underrated Revolutionary Road. Read more about A Cure for Wellness below. Read More »
All you have to say is “Lars von Trier sex movie” to get someone interested in Nymphomaniac. The controversial director has told many visceral and beautiful stories over his career, often with a great sexual frankness, that the idea of him making full movie about sexuality just screams “potential.”
Speaking of screaming, fourteen character posters for the film have just been released that are sure to make even more people excited about the film. They show the film’s stars — actors as Shia LaBeouf, Jamie Bell, Uma Thurman, Willem Dafoe, Stellan Skarsgård, Christian Slater, and Charlotte Gainsbourg — in their most intimate moments. I believe on The League they call it “Vinegar Strokes,” the moment right before, and during orgasm. Check out these provocative posters below. Read More »
Lars von Trier may have been banned (or “banned”) from Cannes two years ago for statements made while promoting Melancholia, but that hasn’t stopped him from having a presence at the fest this year. His new film(s), the two-part Nymphomaniac, weren’t finished in time for the fest, but the release of a new image (above) and a press release are keeping Trier in the global cinema conversation as Cannes kicks off this year.
Click the pic above for a larger version and you’ll be able to see actors such as Shia LaBeouf, Jamie Bell, Udo Kier, Uma Thurman, Sophie Kennedy Clark, Willem Dafoe, Mia Goth, Stellan Skarsgård, Christian Slater, and star Charlotte Gainsbourg, as well as the director. And hit the jump for a press release from Trier’s producer, announcing a Christmas Day opening in Denmark. Magnolia has the film in the US, and hasn’t announced a release date yet. Read More »
Today, Lars von Trier begins shooting his new film(s) Nymphomaniac, which tell “the wild and poetic story of a woman’s erotic journey from birth to the age of 50.” If things go as planned, the final release will be split into two films, with hardcore and softcore versions of each. Shooting in Germany and Belgium, the project stars Charlotte Gainsbourg as Joe, the self-diagnosed nymphomaniac of the title, and the participation of Stellan Skarsgård and Shia LaBeouf is confirmed by a press release announcing the start of production.
That same press release confirms other actors and reveals some new names that will be part of the story, too: Stacy Martin (as young Joe), Jamie Bell, Connie Nielsen, Mia Goth, Jens Albinus, Severin von Hoensbroech, Peter Gilberg Cotton, Nicolas Bro, Tabea Tarbiat, Janine Romanowski, Jesper Christensen, Tania Carlin, Felicity Gilbert and Shanti Roney.
