Captain Fantastic didn’t make our best of Sundance list earlier this year, but both Peter and Ethan enjoyed the film. Overall, the reviews were slightly mixed, and now having seen the trailer, it’s easy to see why. Captain Fantastic, which stars Viggo Mortensen (The Road), looks like a potentially overly quirky family drama, the kind of film we see a little too often, but maybe that’s not the case. Plenty of critics suggested the film is far more than that, and the trailer isn’t without promise.

American Psycho, Big Love, and American Horror Story actor Matt Ross makes his feature writing and directing debut with 28 Hotel Rooms, which played Sundance this year to considerable acclaim and is soon opening via Oscilloscope. The film follows the tumultuous courtship of a couple played by Chris Messina (Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Away We Go) and Marin Ireland (Homeland), and this first trailer for the movie is an occasionally raw illustration of the life they try to lead together. While we’ve been busy fussing over how much Lindsay Lohan looks (or doesn’t look) like Elizabeth Taylor in Lifetime’s Liz & Dick, another biopic from the cable channel has quietly been pushing forward. Singer/songwriter Jewel was cast last month as the lead in the TV movie The June Carter Cash Story, and we now have the first look of her in character alongside Matt Ross (American Horror Story), who plays Johnny Cash.
