IMAX

IMAX and Walt Disney Pictures announced today that the Robert Zemeckis-produced Mars Needs Moms starring Seth Green and Joan Cusack, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and Pixar’s Cars 2, will all be released in IMAX 3D (in addition to the traditional 2D and 3D releases).

Mars Needs Moms is not much of a surprise considering the movie is using the performance capture technologies of Zemeckis’ previous animated films, all of which have been released in IMAX 3D. Also, Cars 2 isn’t much of a shocker as Toy Story 3 was released in IMAX 3D. Read the full press release after the jump.

Stuntman Spills Details on Iron Man 2 and Tintin

It seems that I’m doubting the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences rather a lot today (after questioning Mike Leigh’s sole credit on screenplays) but I do have a real issue with their lack of recognition for stunt teams. If somebody dies making a film, chances are it was one of the stunt team or, perhaps more to the point, if there’s anticipated risk of death on a film set, we’re definitely talking about the stunt team. Does this alone not warrant a little gold man or two every year?

The Hamilton Behind the Camera Awards do gong-up for the stuntees, though, and the winner of their 2009 award is the incredible Garrett Warren. This ‘Stunt Choreographer of the Year’ has most recently worked on Iron Man 2, Tintin, Alice in Wonderland, Avatar and Mars Needs Moms and is therefore a wonderful treasure trove of mid-scale scoopage.

The motion-captured movie of Berkley Breathed’s Mars Needs Moms is getting stacked up with cast and The Hollywood Reporter have named the three latest signings to join the mission: Seth Green, Joan Cusack and Mindy Sterling.

Taking advantage of the body-morphing facilities of the mo-cap process, Green’s character will be little Milo, a mere lad (see above) . Joan Cusack will play his mom, who gets kidnapped by an Alien race that will have Mindy Sterling as their queen. The previously cast Dan Fogler has the obligatory best friend part.

As any bad observational comedian will tell you, you can wait all year for a Berkley Breathed news story to come along, and then two will come along at once. One of these is from a nameable – and therefore, visibly verifiable – source, and the other… I can’t tell you who told me. So take that one with a pinch of salt if you want.

Okay, story one. Coming Soon have been speaking to Dan Fogler at the Fanboys press junket and he let about his joining the cast of Mars Needs Moms. Set to be Robert Zemeckis‘ next project after A Christmas Carol, you’ll probably be not at all surprised to hear it wil be another motion caption movie.
