There was a little bit of video from the set of Machete Kills that leaked out a week or so back, but was quickly taken down. Now there’s a replacement, in the form of a TV set visit to the set of Robert Rodriguez‘s latest weird action flick. Danny Trejo returns as Machete, and this time he faces (among other things) Mel Gibson playing a character who is “out to get the President.”(With the President played by Charlie Sheen.)

Check out the video, as well as an image of William Sadler‘s character from the film, below. Read More »

Director Robert Rodriguez seems be compiling one of the most eclectic, crazy casts of all time with Machete Kills. In addition to all the returning stars (Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez, Jessica Alba) he’s recently revealed that Charlie Sheen will be appearing along with Mel Gibson, Amber Heard, Sofia Vergara, Zoe Saldana and many more. The latest addition is one of the biggest pop stars in the world, Lady Gaga, who is playing a character named La Chameleon. Check out her character poster and more after the jump. Read More »

Robert Rodriguez sure seems to have a soft spot for PR-challenged celebs. 2010’s Machete saw him working with a notoriously troubled Lindsay Lohan, and for its sequel Machete Kills, Rodriguez is upping the ante with not one but two recovering trainwrecks.

Mel Gibson has been signed on to play a “Bond-style villain” since April, and now Charlie Sheen has signed on to play one of the apparent good guys — specifically, the president of the United States. Rodriguez himself made the announcement this week, along with a few snapshots from the set. Flip through the photos and read about Sheen’s casting after the jump.

Earlier this month, a press release announcing the return of Red stars Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich, and Mary Louise Parker for Red 2 promised that the retired black ops team would be facing on “a new set of enemies all across Europe.” Now we have a better idea of what exactly those baddies will look like.

Variety reports that Anthony Hopkins is in talks to play the villain, a mad genius incorrectly presumed to be dead. As Willis and his ex-CIA team desperately search for a weapon of mass destruction that Hopkins has created, he offers to give up its location if Willis agrees to help him escape an insane asylum. Hopkins would join fellow newcomers Catherine Zeta-Jones and Lee Byung-Hun, who signed on earlier this month in unknown roles.

However, Hopkins’ casting is contingent on his ability to reconcile Red 2‘s production schedule with his commitment to Thor 2. Hopkins had a supporting role in the previous Thor movie as the god Odin, Thor and Loki’s father. Red 2 is due out August 2, 2013, while Thor 2 is slated to hit November 15, 2013.

After the jump, Danny Trejo reveals that Zoe Saldana will be among the lovely ladies of Machete Kills.

‘Machete Kills’ Adds Amber Heard

The idea of Machete Kills has been floating around ever since it was promised in the end credits of the first Machete, back in 2010. But it’s only recently that the project’s really begun picking up steam, with Danny Trejo entering talks to reprise his role this past February.

Now, as Machete Kills comes together to start shooting later this month, it’s been locking down cast members left and right. Returning stars Jessica Alba and Michelle Rodriguez have both climbed aboard in the past few weeks, as have franchise newcomers Mel Gibson and Demián Bichir (A Better Life). And as of today, the latest fresh face to join the cast is Amber Heard. More after the jump.

One Oscar nomination and Demian Bichir is everywhere. After getting a surprise, but well deserved, Best Actor nomination earlier this year for his work in A Better Life, the actor is beginning to line up quite an impressive list of projects. He just completed Oliver Stone’s Savages, appeared on Showtime’s Weeds and he’s just been cast in Robert Rodriguez‘s Machete Kills and William Friedkin‘s Trapped. Variety, who broke the news of this casting, also reveals that J.J. Abrams was at one point interested in casting the actor as the villain in Star Trek 2 but Bichir had to pass because of a scheduling conflict. Read more about all of this after the jump. Read More »
