In news that should come as no surprise the millions of people who went out of their way to avoid Mortdecai and Transcendence, Forbes has compiled its annual list of the most overpaid actors in Hollywood and Johnny Depp is sitting not-so-pretty at number one. And when you look at the raw numbers, no one else is even close.
However, there’s a little more going on here than a great excuse to kick Johnny Depp and his collection of dumb hats while they’re down. The disparity between what “movie stars” are paid and what their movies end up grossing at the box office is shifting. The age of the movie star is effectively over and you can see this reflected in the full list below.

Liam Neeson can be pretty damn intimidating when he wants to be (see: his entire post-Taken career), so it’s a little ironic that when he finally gets the chance to play a straight-up monster, he… actually doesn’t seem scary at all. The monster of J.A. Bayona‘s A Monster Calls seems plenty big and creepy, sure. But he seems to be a gentler sort, more interested in rescuing lost little boys and making moviegoers cry, than he does unleashing terror upon screaming victims.
Based on the novel by Patrick Ness (who also penned the screenplay), A Monster Calls stars Lewis MacDougall as a young boy who escapes his unhappy reality by slipping into a dark fantasy world. Felicity Jones and Toby Kebbell play his parents. Watch the A Monster Calls teaser trailer after the jump. Read More »
Sadly, the 2015 awards season will be devoid of a film from iconic director Martin Scorsese. But the good news is that his next film is a long-gestating passion project, the adaptation of Shûsaku Endô‘s book Silence, and it’s slated to arrive sometime late in 2016. We’ve already gotten a first look at The Amazing Spider-Man star Andrew Garfield in the film, but now a new photo of co-star Liam Neeson has surfaced online as well. Check out the Silence first look photo below! Read More »
Just last week, video game company Activision Blizzard announced the formation of their own Activision Blizzard Studios with the intention of bringing some of their biggest titles to film and television. They’re starting off with development of a Call of Duty film franchise as well as a Skylanders television series, but since the company also just picked up the company behind Candy Crush, it was only a matter of time before a Candy Crush movie became a reality.
Well, it took just a few days. Hollywood has already churned out a Candy Crush movie with Liam Neeson in the key role of Mr. Toffee, and a clip has just surfaced online. Read More »
Liam Neeson may not end up in the TV version of one of his most famous movie roles, but the actor is carrying on in the thriller mode that has defined the last few years of his career. Now, Liam Neeson… is… The Commuter! That relatively underwhelming title decorates the front page of a script about a businessman’s white-knuckle trip home, during which he is embroiled in a conspiracy. Read More »

This weekend Melissa McCarthy enters secret agent territory as the unlikely hero Susan Cooper in the action comedy Spy. And while the trailers seem to indicate that she’s probably not the best woman for the job, she did get us thinking about the best spies in the business.
There have been plenty of spies on the big screen, from James Bond to Jason Bourne, and I decided to count down the Top 15 Best Movie Spies that we’ve seen throughout the years. The summer movie season is finally here, and with it comes the usual glut of big-budget blockbusters. But if you’re in the mood for something a bit more offbeat, Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet is definitely one to look out for.
Inspired by the collection of prose poetry essays that gives the movie its title, Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet turns those poems into distinct segments, each done up in a different, gorgeously unique animation style. All are knit together by a framing device involving an artist (Liam Neeson), his housekeeper (Salma Hayek), and her daughter (voiced by Quvenzhané Wallis).

Liam Neeson‘s gun-toting, bone-crunching days are numbered. The 62-year-old actor estimates he has “maybe two more years” of action movies in him, after spending most of the past several years starring in Taken, movies that look exactly like Taken, and movies that otherwise build off of the badass persona he established in Taken.
