Paul W.S. Anderson has made so many disasters in his career, it’s about time he made a film about one. (Rimshot) He just started filming Pompeii, a 3D period epic set against the leveling of the titular city from the volcanic eruption of Mount Vesuvius. Kit Harington (Game of Thrones’ Jon Snow) stars as a slave who must rush to save his love (Emily Browning), who’s also the daughter of his master (Jared Harris). Now another major name has been added to the list.
Kiefer Sutherland has just joined Pompeii as the villainous Roman senator who originally enslaved Harington’s character. Read more about the film below. Read More »

Johnny Depp‘s fruitful relationship with Disney continues with two new projects, which Depp will be producing with Christi Dembrowski through their company Infinitum Nihil. The first is a feature adaptation of The Night Stalker, a made-for-TV vampire flick from the 1970s, while the other will tell the story of American hero Paul Revere during his famous midnight ride. From Roman Polanski to the other Paul Anderson? This may be only the second-biggest tragedy to strike the ancient city of Pompeii, but it is certainly the most recent. Four years ago, Roman Polanski planned to mount a massive historical epic based in Pompeii that would have culminated with the eruption of Vesuvius and the destruction of the city. The script was to be based on the Robert Harris novel about Pompeii, but plans were dashed when SAG and WGA strikes loomed.
But other pitches about the city and its tragic, disastrous fate — totally unrelated to the scuttled Polanski film, aside from the basic setting — have circulated, and now Paul W.S. Anderson will make one that is positioned as a big disaster movie with a love story to keep us all emotionally engaged. Read More »
