Have you been following our coverage of the 2013 Sundance Film Festival? It’s been a crazy six days so far and with five days to go, who knows what great films are left to discover or get on your radar. So far, we’ve reviewed (or at least discussed) nearly 20 different movies that you will be talking about later this year and have plenty more on the way. Some of the highlights include Shane Carruth’s Upstream Color, Zal Batmanglij and Brit Marling’s The East, Michael Cera in Crystal Fairy, the horror sequel S-VHS, Richard Linklater’s incredible Before Midnight and the controversial Escape from Tomorrow. We also reviewed such buzzed about films as Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s Don Jon’s Addiction, the star-studded comedy The Way Way Back, and James Ponsoldt’s teen drama The Spectacular Now, all of which have been picked up for distribution. For everything else we’ve written so far, click on this link.
The latest films picked up for distrubution include Toy’s House, about a group of kids who run away from home and build a house in the woods, the tense real-life thriller Fruitvale and the Jack Kerouac/Daniel Radcliffe film Kill Your Darlings, the real life porn story Lovelace, David Gordon Green’s Paul Rudd/Emile Hirsch comedy Prince Avalanche, among others.

Friday is the first real day of the 2013 Sundance Film Festival and I spent the afternoon in the Eccles Theater (aka the Park City High School auditorium) watching two films: Jerusha Hess‘ adaptation of Austenland starring Keri Russell, and Kill Your Darlings starring Daniel Radcliffe as Alan Ginsberg. The image above comes straight from Sundance and is the first official look at the cast of Kill Your Darlings, which features a good crop of young actors as Beat Generation luminaries such as Allen Ginsberg and William S. Burroughs. Daniel Radcliffe plays Ginsberg and Ben Foster plays Burroughs; Jack Huston joins in as Jack Kerouac, and Dane DeHaan plays Lucien Carr, who introduced Ginsberg to Burroughs and Kerouac, and in so doing helped create one of the most notable writers’ cliques of the century.
But a guy named David Kammerer (Michael C. Hall) was in love with Carr, and when Kammerer was found murdered, the group of friends was caught up in the investigation, and the young Ginsberg’s coming of age is tainted by experience he would never have predicted.

Daniel Radcliffe‘s days wearing Harry Potter’s world-famous round specs may be over, but in one of his first post-Hogwarts roles, he’s donning another iconic pair. Specifically, Radcliffe’s put on Beat poet Allen Ginsberg‘s tortoiseshell glasses for John Krokidas‘ Kill Your Darlings, a fact-based drama about the early days of the Beat Generation. Thanks to her performances in Martha Marcy May Marlene and Silent House, Elizabeth Olsen became one of the brightest young stars of 2011, and now she’s landed a part opposite Daniel Radcliffe in Kill Your Darlings, a film that explores the very early days of Beat Generation writers Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg. They’re all actors who have played beat poet Allen Ginsberg, author of Howl, in various projects over the years. And now Daniel Radcliffe may be the latest addition to the list.
