The coming of age sex comedy The To Do List, formerly called The Hand Job, has been on our radar since it began to assemble a massive cast of young comedic talent. Aubrey Plaza (Parks and Recreation, Scott Pilgrim) plays a young woman who wants to head into college with a wealth of sexual experience under her belt, and so spends her post-senior summer trying to check off items on a sexual to-do list. The latest actors to sign on for the shenanigans are Clark Gregg (Marvel Studios’ bedrock player) and Rachel Bilson (The O.C., New York, I Love You). Read More »

There was a moment where it looked like Emma Watson might not do much acting at all after the Harry Potter series ended, but she quickly shot a small part in My Week With Marilyn (now in post-production) and then took a role in the film adaptation of The Perks of Being a Wallflower, opposite Logan Lerman. That film is shooting now, and the young Mr. Lerman has sent out a few sneaky first looks at the film via Twitter. That’s a cropped look at one of them, above, and you can see a more full image after the break, along with a couple other images of the cast. Read More »

Last year Maggie Carey‘s film The Hand Job was announced, in which Aubrey Plaza would play a high school graduate who decides she needs a lot more sexual experience before college, and proceeds to work her way through a checklist of, er, action items. Yesterday many more cast members were announced and today we have even more, and roles for many of them.

Connie Britton will play the main character’s “liberal, free-spirited mother,” Mae Whitman and Alia Shawkat are two of her best friends; and Scott Porter will play a guy in a band that Plaza has a crush on.

Dominic Dierkes and D.C. Pierson (along with their Derrick Comedy co-member Don Glover) will play lifeguards; Bill Hader will be their stoned boss at the pool. Johnny Simmons is Plaza’s classmate and co-worker, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse is his sci-fi nerd best friend. There will be a few more roles cast yet, but this is a great cast so far. And after Easy A I very much welcome more efforts to turn the typical male coming of age sex comedy into a story outline that girls can get lost in, too. [Variety]

After the break, Keira Knightley heads to TV — in a way — for the Syfy miniseries Neverland. Read More »

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World

We’ve seen a teaser and a full trailer for Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Edgar Wright‘s adaptation of the graphic novel series by Bryan Lee O’Malley. Now there’s an international trailer that sells the tale of Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera) a bass player and sorta-slacker who falls for Ramona Flowers (Mary-Elizabeth Winstead) but must defeat her seven evil exes before they can truly be together. Lots of new footage in this one, including a good look at Brandon Routh. Read More »

Scott Pilgrim

Universal Pictures has released the first full-length movie trailer for Edgar Wright‘s upcoming action-comedy Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. Based on the comic book series written by Bryan Lee O’Malley, Pilgrim tells the story of a charming and jobless 22-year-old who must defeat his new girlfriend’s seven evil ex-boyfriends in order to win her heart. The new trailer will be attached to Get Him To The Greek, but has been put online once the Scott Pilgrim facebook page reached 100,000 fans (which happened at 1:30am on Monday morning).

The new trailer is pretty awesome, and has me even more excited about the film than the initial teaser. The only thing I didn’t like was the lame “it’s on like Donkey Kong” tagline which I’m sure was the “genius” idea of the Universal’s marketing team. Watch the trailer now embedded after the jump. First Look: Edgar Wright’s Scott Pilgrim vs the World

scott-pilgrim-cast-header-1

We’ve seen a lot of candid cast photos for Edgar Wright‘s upcoming Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, but until now we haven’t seen any actual stills from the film. Edgar Wright just blogged what appears to be the first official still blown up and framed.  But the wily director didn’t just throw the shot out to the world; he took the photo at an extreme angle that seeks to obscure it somewhat. Thanks to the magic of this photo reconstructing program I have on loan from the FBI (ok, it’s just Photoshop) you can get a great look at Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Johnny Simmons, Ellen Wong, Allison Pill and Mark Webber as they (I think) look disdainfully at a performance by a rival band.

Check the original photo and our ‘fixed’ version in embiggened size after the break. Read More »

aubrey plaza in scott pilgrim vs. the world

You might not know who Aubrey Plaza is right now, but you will soon enough. The Upright Citizen’s Brigade comic was featured in the Sundance comedy hit Mystery Team and has co-starring roles in Judd Apatow’s Funny People and Edgar Wright‘s Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. Speaking of which, it has been quite a while since we last posted an update on the comic book adaptation. Today, Wright posted the first photo of Plaza (seen above), who plays Julie Powers, the obnoxious on-off-on-again girlfriend of Stephen Stills, the lead singer and guitarist of Scott’s band, Sex Bob-omb, and Stacey Pilgrim’s (Anna Kendrick) coffee shop co-worker. And guess what? You can see the first photo of the band rehearsing after the jump, as well as a photo from and their rivals — The Clash At Demonhead.
