Cars 2 Trailer

Walt Disney Pictures has released a new movie trailer for Pixar’s Cars 2.

They are really playing up the film’s spy storyline, but nothing I’m seeing is making me interested in this sequel. The first film is in all accounts Pixar’s worst movie to date. It wasn’t even very profitable at the box office, but made billions in toy/merchandise sales. I was hoping that Lasseter may have found some heartfelt hook (I loved the Route 66 storyline in the first film, but it came in way too late) but the trailers thus far present a storyline which looks like a sad excuse to cash in at Toys r Us. And don’t get me wrong, I understand this is the movie BUSINESS, but I have come to expect more from Pixar. They are a studio-run entity which time and time again have produced films which are at the perfect intersection of entertainment and art.

One of the great pleasures of the Cars 2 trailer we saw yesterday — likely the greatest pleasure for many — was the surprise appearance of Michael Caine. The actor voices one new character, a British spy named Finn McMissile. His presence in the cast led many to closely examine the rest of the trailer in order to discover what other new actors are part of the sequel.

Now we know for certain that Emily Mortimer, Jason Isaacs and Joe Mantegna are all voicing new characters. Read More »

Got to hand it to Collider: they’re scouring the American Film Market scarfing up info on a ton of new films being represented there this week. The latest two are Abducted, which is the first post-Twilight film for Taylor Lautner, and ATM, which is based on a script hatched by Chris Sparling, aka the screenwriter on Buried.

Synopsis for each and an image for ATM are after the break. Read More »

The Farrelly Brothers start shooting their new film Hall Pass in Atlanta this week, and the cast just got an injection of additional talent. Stephen Merchant and J.B. Smoove will join Owen Wilson, Jenna Fischer and Jason Sudeikis in the film about two husbands (Wilson and Sudeikis) who are given a free pass to have extra-marital adventures for a week. Still don’t get why the title ‘Hall Pass’ applies, but no matter; Merchant and Smoove are great additions. [THR]

After the break, three actors join the indie thriller Retreat, and 50 Cent gets serious. Read More »
