The great thing about the sixth Fast and Furious movie is it doesn’t take itself too seriously. In a way, it’s almost a big-budget spoof of the rest of the franchise, giving fans a bare bones plot filled with the action and excitement they crave.
Leave it to the filmmakers behind Date Movie, Epic Movie, Disaster Movie, Vampires Suck, Meet the Spartans and the upcoming The Starving Games to take it even further. Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer are writing and directing Superfast!, a spoof movie based on the Fast and Furious franchise and similar high-octane action movies. Read More »

Getting spoofed by the Scary Movie guys is sort of a Hollywood rite of passage at this point, so maybe in some twisted way this counts as an honor. Except no, not really. Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer, the geniuses who brought you Date Movie, Epic Movie, Disaster Movie, etc., are set to write and direct The Starving Games, a no doubt hilarious parody of The Hunger Games and other recent action blockbusters. More details after the jump.

At first glance it appears that Aaron Seltzer and Jason Friedberg, the screenwriting/directing team credited with ruining the spoof movie genre (Disaster Movie, Meet the Spartans, Epic Movie, Scary Movie series, Date Movie) have run out of material in the Hollywood genre world and are now going to take aim at the Los Angeles independent scene with a new movie titled LA Art Movie. Ugh. Chris Gore already beat them to it with My Big Fat Independent Movie in 2005.
No information is known about the plot, but chances are there isn’t much of one (I’m only half-joking). I’m guessing that the film will probably take on Swingers and… ummm… Is the LA indie film really topical enough to spoof?I’ve heard that the film might actually be a cover for a spoof feature film taking on the popular teen vampire series Twilight, which would make a lot more sense.

Why does Hollywood still make spoof movies? And why are people still stupid enough to go see them? Moviehole reports that Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer, the guys behind Meet the Spartans and Epic Movie, are now in pre-production on a SuperBad spoof called Goodie Two Shoes. Yes folks, you read correctly, a SuperBad spoof. My first thoughts were: Why? What’s the point? and Please, Why don’t you guys stop making movies and get a job in construction? But maybe not in that order.
Goodie Two Shoes will film in Louisiana from April 28 through June 6. The story follows a “group of friends who go on a life-changing adventure” but like most recent spoof films, the “comedy” won’t be limited to teen sex comedies. The casting call sheet reveals plans to spoof the upcoming Will Smith Superhero comedy Hancock, Sex and the City the movie, and Mike Myers’ The Love Guru. The duo is also on the look out for other look-alikes to play Jessica Simpson, Justin Timberlake, Prince, Flava Flav, Dr Phil, Angelina Jolie, Paris Hilton, and Michael Jackson. Remember back in the day when a spoof movie just stuck to the genre/topic it was spoofing? Someone needs to explain to the spoof genre that it is not, and will never be Saturday Night Live. Better yet, someone needs to take the Spoof film out back and shoot it in the head.
Discuss: Should Hollywood retire the Spoof genre?
