At 3 p.m. CST Friday, the doors opened at the Mondo Gallery in Austin Texas for the highly anticipated collaboration between Mondo and Disney. The show, called Nothing’s Impossible, is on display through March 11th. All week, leading up to the opening, several sites premiered images from the show.

So we’ve seen posters for Disney classics new and old such as Fantasia, Sleeping Beauty, The Incredibles, The Lion King, Wall-E, The Sword in the Stone and so many more. They can be viewed at this link but Mondo held back a few as a surprise. Those include posters by Aaron Horkey (Ratatouille), Olly Moss (The Jungle Book), Mike Mitchell (Up and Incredibles) and more. Check out the remainder of the show, which isn’t posted here, below. Read More »

Raiders Face Melt

Next week, New York gets a taste of Los Angeles as Gallery 1988 brings their signature event, Crazy 4 Cult, back to the Big Apple. The show opens December 13 and while we’ll have much more on the event in the upcoming days, two pieces in particular deserve to be called out.

They’re paintings by Jason Edmiston, who recently had a solo gallery show at Mondo in Austin, TX. Edmiston captured the climax of Steven Spielberg‘s Raiders of the Lost Ark with two paintings showing Colonel Dietrich and  Major Arnold Toht in the horrific final moments. These works aren’t for the faint of heart, but they will find a place in the heart of any Indiana Jones fan. Check them out below. Read More »

Venom - Randy Ortiz

While millions of shoppers brave the cold and crowds looking for deals on Black Friday, others are stuck in front of a computer, rapidly searching for deals online. If that sounds like you, hopefully your refresh finger is quick, as Mondo has some very cool offerings going up on Friday.

There’s everyone’s favorite Spider-Man villain Venom by Randy Ortiz, a new take on Halloween by Jock, the underrated Sightseers by Olly Moss, the gruesome The Fly by Drew Millward, a gorgeous Lost Boys portrait by Jason Edmiston and even a new Watchmen poster (previously seen in Superhero Bits) by Kevin Tong. Yup, Friday is gonna be fun. Check out all the images below. Read More »

Jason Edmiston - Predator

Every time you see a piece of art by Jason Edmiston, it takes a second to process. You have to look closely and ask, “Am I looking at a photo or is this a painting?” The next question is whether or not you have enough money to buy it.

Edmiston is the man behind the next solo show at the Mondo Gallery in Austin, Texas. It’s called A Rogues Gallery. The Toronto-based artist has done several brand new acrylic paintings immortalizing some of the biggest and baddest villains in cinema history. Characters from films like Ghostbusters, RoboCop, Predator, Terminator, Aliens, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and they’ll all be on display starting Friday August 23. Check out a sampling below. Jason Edmiston - Evil Dead 2 header

The two leaders in pop culture art are both releasing excellent new prints on Thursday. First up is Mondo, which is finally releasing an awesome Army of Darkness poster, made by Randy Ortiz for a screening that took place a few weeks back. They’re pairing that with a brand new Evil Dead 2 poster by Jason Edmiston.

Then there’s Gallery 1988, which still has its awesome Bad Robot exhibit on display. With Star Trek Into Darkness coming soon the gallery is releasing a brand new print by Rhys Cooper, featuring Benedict Cumberbatch‘s villainous John Harrison. Check them all out below. Read More »

When the Mondo Gallery first opened last year, I asked if the original work behind some of their most sought after posters would ever be offered for sale. The answer was a sly smile and a “no comment.” Now we know why.

The next exhibit at the Mondo Gallery in Austin, TX is called In Progress and will feature original, hand drawn sketches, line art and concepts that were eventually made into some of the iconic posters released by the company. Opening January 25, the show features original art by Martin Ansin, Kevin Tong, Ken Taylor, Jock, Mark Englert, JC Richard, Aaron Horkey, Jay Ryan, Tom Whalen, Dave Perillo, Laurent Durieux, Dan McCarthy…pretty much every single major artist that works with the company not named Stout or Moss.

Below, we’ve got a few previously released images and exclusives from Jay Shaw and Jason Edmiston, including their thoughts on the pieces. Read More »
