We don’t have full confirmation from Quentin Tarantino or The Weinstein Company, but at this point it looks like Jamie Foxx will play the lead in Quentin Tarantino’s new film Django Unchained, which he’ll shoot in the next few months.
UPDATE: Variety and other outlets confirm the casting. Variety also says that Kerry Washington is one of several actresses to meet about the role of Django’s wife Broomhilda. Read More »

One of the hottest films casting at the moment is Quentin Tarantino‘s spaghetti Western-influenced ‘Southern,’ Django Unchained. Previous Tarantino collaborators Samuel L. Jackson and Christoph Waltz are already on board and Leonardo DiCaprio is rumored to join. However, one star that likely won’t be joining the party is Will Smith, who was previously reported as the frontrunner for the title role. Now a new report suggests that Jamie Foxx may be taking over the part originally intended for Smith, and that DiCaprio is “definitely signed” to play the villain. Read more after the jump.

The flirtation between Leonardo DiCaprio and Quentin Tarantino may finally be on the verge of bringing the two together on a project. The director originally wanted Leonardo DiCaprio to play Hans Landa in Inglourious Basterds, but Christoph Waltz ended up with the part, riding it all the way to the Oscars.
Not long ago word surfaced that the actor might be a top choice to play Calvin Candie, the wealthy slave plantation owner who is the chief antagonist of Tarantino’s upcoming project, Django Unchained. Turns out that report was on the money and DiCaprio is now in early talks for the part. But the question remains: who will play the freed slave Django, since it looks less and less like the director’s first choice, Will Smith, will sign on? Read More »

Jason Bateman fans: today is all yours. We just saw a new theatrical trailer for The Change-Up, his body-switching comedy with Ryan Reynolds, and now here’s the first trailer for Horrible Bosses. This is a comedy where three friends (Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis and Charlie Day) scheme, in seemingly moronic ways, to knock off their three bosses, played by Colin Farrell, Kevin Spacey and Jennifer Aniston. We’ve had high hopes for this one, and the trailer has a few good laughs. (Many from Colin Farrell.) Check it out after the break. Read More »

If a film studio can’t bring in audiences to a slick-looking, 3D animated film starring animals with famous voices, they might as well hand over their keys. Making kids movies is like printing money; even the bad ones are usually successful in some way. That makes it tough to gauge just how big a role the marketing played in it.
For example, on April 15 Blue Sky is releasing Rio directed by Carlos Saldanha, who has done Ice Age, Robots, Ice Age: Meltdown, and Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs for the CG animation house. It features characters voiced by Jesse Eisenberg, Anne Hathaway, Jamie Foxx, Tracy Morgan, Leslie Mann, Jemaine Clement, George Lopez, Jake T. Austin, Will.I.Am and is about a rare bird (Eisenberg) who finds out there’s one other bird in the world like him, and she’s female (Hathaway), so he travels to Rio de Janeiro to win her heart.
While the main characters are important, side characters regularly make these movies and that’s what these new character posters focus on. The question remains, will posters like this make much of a difference? Check them out and let us know. Read More »

Yes, you read that headline correctly. The most recent director for Kane & Lynch, Patrick Alessandrin (District 13: Ultimatum) has walked.
This is only the latest directorial change for the video game adaptation that is to star Bruce Willis and Jamie Foxx. Previous possible directors included Wayne Kramer and F. Gary Gray, and those men are both being sought as possible replacements for Alessandrin, along with Antoine Fuqua. Read More »

Warner Bros has released a new international movie trailer for Hangover director Todd Phillips‘ next comedy Due Date. The film stars Zach Galifianakis and Robert Downey Jr in a buddy-comedy story which has been described as kinda Hangover meets Planes, Trains and Automobiles. The screenplay by Alan R. Cohen and Alan Freedland (with rewrites by Adam Sztykiel) has Galifianakis as a wannabe actor who becomes the companion to an expectant father / businessman (Downey) as they dash cross-country to (hopefully) arrive in time for the childbirth.
Robert Downey Jr has gone on record saying he thinks this might be “the second greatest movie” he’s ever made. Is it? The pairing of Downey Jr and Galifianakis seems to have worked brilliantly. Downey is the perfect straight man to Galifianakis’ comic relief/foil.
