It 2 cast

After It cleaned-up at the box office and a sequel was guaranteed, fans had one pressing question: who would play the adult versions of the Losers’ Club? It Chapter 2

Warner Bros. and New Line know they have a hit on their hands with It, Andy Muschietti‘s terrific adaptation of Stephen King’s classic horror novel. Splitting the dense book into two films – one that follows “The Losers’ Club” protagonists as children, and one that catches up with them as adults nearly thirty years later – was a bold move that required a lot of confidence that the first movie would be good enough to justify the sequel. But now that we’re on the cusp of the first film’s release and that’s earned solid reviews, a sequel seems inevitable.

While It: Chapter 2 hasn’t officially been given the green light by the studio just yet, we’re confident it’s only a matter of time because they’ve already hired It co-writer Gary Dauberman to begin writing the sequel.

it sequel

It may seem silly to talk about a movie’s sequel before the first one is even in theaters, but Andy Muschietti‘s adaptation of It demands the conversation. Stephen King‘s massive novel was divided in half for the film adaptation and the scenes that take place 30 years after the “Losers’ Club” battle Pennywise the Clown (and its various other guises) were excised. But they weren’t forgotten. Even when we visited the set, the filmmakers were already talking about their plans for the sequel.

And with It finally hitting theaters on Friday, Muschietti is saying even more. Specifically, that some of the book’s deranged, cosmic weirdness could take center stage in the follow-up.

It sequel

Warner Bros. and New Line must be feeling pretty good about director Andy Muschietti‘s big screen adaptation of Stephen King’s It. Box office tracking predicts a blockbuster. The early buzz has been very positive. The trailers are just plain creepy. Since the movie only adapts one half of King’s massive novel, there’s plenty of room for a sequel. If everything goes right, it’s a no-brainer.

While Muschietti recently signed on to make a live-action version of Robotech, he’s now made it clear that his first priority is the It sequel. And based on some of his comments from our visit to the set last year, he has a good reason to hurry up and make this happen as soon as possible.
